Log cabin hand built by my dad in the early 70âs (my mom helped too!). Live like the Brady Bunch with authentic orange kitchen counters, with modern updates like a cozy gas stove, great knives and cookware, and high-quality linens. Private 1 acre with deck, charcoal grill and fire pit. Please note there is no TV, bring your devices loaded!
Cabin is central to the Manistee National Forest with miles of snowmobile and walking trails, hunting in season, boating on the Manistee river, and hiking trails just down the road accessed near The Seaton Creek Campground.
I welcome your dogs and they will love the fenced yard (you will, too!). Just be warned that dogs who like to escape can probably find a way- there are some holes on the far side of the property! Pet fee is $20.
*NOTE: In July and August, I may be able to free up dates if the ones you want are not showing up as available. Please message me for stays extending past the weekend.
House was in a great location. Very clean and charming. The only thing I was unhappy about was the listing stated there was a/c, but didnât state it was just a portable unit on the first floor. Two beds are upstairs. When we were there the temp outside was around 90, so the upstairs of the house was unbearable, even with the portable unit on the first floor at full blast. A little more clarity on that would have been nice in the listing.
The cabin was clean, well stocked, and as described! The ONLY thing I will say, is shew. We were there in 2 days of 90 Heat and it was miserably hot. Even with several fans and the portable AC unit. But as soon as temps dropped back down in the upper 70's to lower 80's it was absolutely fine! Great fenced in yard. But the far (I think it's west side of the yard?) doesnât seem to be fenced in. It's just very thick brush so definitely watch your pups on that side because there were deer coming in and out of the yard from that side as well. Communication via text with the host was wonderful & very timely. Wouldn't hesitate tonstay again! LOVE that they were MORE than welcoming to dogs! There was even a bin of dog toys there!
The vacation rental was great especially the backyard and fire area. We had fun roasting hot dogs and marshmallows. The bedroom had comfortable beds and linens. The kitchen was great. We traveled to Traverse City. Cadillac, and the dunes. There are alot of hiking trails and places to dine in the area.Thank you for a great time in the rental.
We had a great stay with our family and two dogs. The home was as described and suited all of our needs. We especially liked the fenced in yard for the dogs and the cozy vintage atmosphere!
The property was easy to find and enough off the beaten path where I heard almost no signs of life. Communication with the property owner was easy too. The whole place looked like it was from the 70's and we loved it. The queen bed was firm and easy to sleep on, there was a bonfire pit that my wife and I took full advantage of. And the radio, the only sound system in the house, produced a lot of good sound. Overall, we will definitely be back.
There were earwigs everywhere, it was awful. They were all over the bathroom, even on my toothbrush at one point. They were also all over the kitchen counter top. The house needs to be professionally bug sprayed.
Also, the grass was so long. We had a dog and I did not like to see her out in the long grass, there are a lot of ticks this year. Also my son and husband were trying to play catch and other yard games in grass up to your knees. Not great.
Did like that the gate closed, so our dog could have free range. The fire pit area was cute. Loved that there was crochet, don't see that game very often anymore.
We enjoyed this little property! I took my black lab and he loved the freedom and space of the fenced in yard. The kitchen was fully equipped and everything was clean and well kept. It is a very peaceful and comfortable place to stay. I would definitely stay there again.
Thank you for letting us enjoy your family's cabin!
Very clean organized and charming log cabin. Everything was perfect and the dogs had a lovely time in the fenced yard on 1 acre. People in the area were very friendly and told us fun things to do near by like kayaking down the beautiful Manistee river. Very pleasant and enjoyable!!
The property was super clean. We traveled with a dog and the yard was great for her. About 45 mins away from everything we did, just so you are aware. Would stay here again
We had an excellent time and enjoyed the cabin.
Just a few notes:
- There was VERY little communication with our host. They didn't even check in with us via text/email to ensure our checkin.
- A small step stool would have sure been handy for us short folks
- We would suggest a booklet/laminated sheet that would have gone over some things like how to turn on lights (not always easy to figure out with the electric set up); detailed instructions on the furnace, a map of the area with places of interest/need shown (gas station, grocery, hospital, where to get firewooe, etc)
- The tongs for grill use are broken. We came up with something. But thought you would like to know.
We stayed at the cabin at the tail end of our nature trip in Michigan. Very comfy and clean and well-equipped for our two night stay. Our dog LOVED the big yard and didn't want to leave :) Great place if you want to explore the nearby Manistee river.
We booked this cabin due to the location to the biking and hiking trails and the fenced in yard as the property is dog friendly!! Our girl is old and can not do the hikes anymore so the acre yard allowed her to be outdoors and explore. Evenings were lovely!! We sat at night and stared at the stars with a bonfire lit.
Great central location for our daily hikes and bikes. Cabin was fully stocked. And very clean. Leslie was communicative before check in. We didn't need anything else from her while we were there. Just remember no TV and no wifi for streaming. We loved it as we turned off gadgets for our time there and read, played cards, and did a puzzle when we were not out in nature.
This property is amazing. The pictures do not do it justice. Lovely cabin with everything we needed. We are booking again!!!
The cabin was super clean and the yard was nice and big for our dog to run around. The town is small so if your looking for things to do you will have to travel. But if your looking for a quiet place to stay and some fishing this is the place to go. Thank you for the stay. We would stay again.
This location was pretty close to the Buckley Old Engine Show, which worked well for us. The house was clean except for windows, screens and fans. Nice yard and sitting area on deck. A bit on the rustic side, which we did not mind. Kitchen and bath had everything we needed. Directions took us right there in spite of it being a few miles from Mesick.
Leslieâs cabin was just as she list in her description. It was a very easy check in process and check out. Love the full size fridge and that there was air if we needed, We didnât and just used the windows and it was a great breeze. The yard is great! Our golden loved it here. We enjoyed campfires at night. Loved the heated fan in the bathroom as it did reach the 40s one night during our stay. We traveled to Traverse City and Sleeping bear dunes (approximately 45 minutes away) Overall I would definitely recommend staying here. We definitely would love to come back.
All was fine until checkout morning. We had failure of all water. None. We determined a breaker must have tripped to the pump as the microwave and toaster oven were dead also. Service panel was not accessible in locked utility room and the only way to contact owner was Thur VRBO !!! So needless to say she finally got back to us when the cleaning person came to clean the place after our stay!! Left three messages for her started at 8am . Do feel she should compensate us some.
Cute, clean with a huge fenced backyard.
There was no tv so we did download some movies on out laptop and did not even end up watching! We had time to reconnect. Played corn hole and Uno. Enjoyed the bonfire and making smores!
We loved the vintage cabin feel. They had everything ready for us and more! About 1hour drive to sleeping bear sand dunes and traverse city. We hiked the Manistee River trail which was beautiful. The yard and house was perfect for our needs. And our dog loved it too! Thank you!
We loved our stay at this cabin in Mesick, MI. It had a big yard and the cabin had everything we needed. We were on vacation stayed 2 nights, we ventured to the Sleeping Bear Dunes and Traverse City from here⊠it was about 45 min drive to each, but we enjoyed being away from everything.
This cozy, stylish cabin was the perfect home base for our Mesick-area adventures in Manistee forest and on the Manistee river. Just the right blend of minimal and comfortable, with PNW-style coffee gear, mature trees, midcentury furnishings, and plenty of peace and quiet. Hike to the putative highest point in the lower peninsula, on nearby Briar Hill!
Hi! I'm Leslie. I am from MI and grew up spending my summers in Yuma, when the Yuma Bar across the street (now defunct) would provide the gentle soundtrack of 80's rock n' roll and the occasional parking lot fight wafting through the open windows on summer nights. I currently live in Austin, TX, but I still escape to MI during the hottest months of the summer. I am an artist, musician, and own several vacation rentals. I have two dogs, Lefty and Sonny, who love Yuma too!
