Disaster

Unacceptable location. Roads were so steep and full of potholes; it was treacherous just getting to the extremely steep and dangerous driveway that had no house number to even stay there if we could have. that we couldn't stay there. It was so off the beaten path. Local people are living upstairs. VRBO needs to investigate immediately. They are using VRBO in a corrupt manner. The pictures used to advertise on VRBO are misleading to say the least, they're offensive to say the most once you arrive. No guest agreed to actually stay at such a remote, secluded, scary place. I need my money back right Now. Shame on VRBO for entertaining such an entirely misleading listing without ever confirming the jungle filled area. Please call me back to arrange my refund because I will be disputing the charges.

Bolongo Bay VRBO

Very easy process. Owner polite and responsive. 2 bdrm , 1 full bath, kitchen, living room, breakfast area. Everything was very clean, all equipment operated as expected. Would definitely stay again! Thank you “Uncle” Albert.

The pictures on the website do not justify the property. The house is nicer in person. My only issue was that the beds could be a little bit bigger..other than that it was worth the price. Thanks Albert.

Clean and quiet; needs some maintenance

We had an enjoyable stay in the unit as a family of four. Will give a detailed review so owner can confirm if issues experienced have been addressed. POSITIVES: The unit was clean, spacious enough, and the balcony was large and a good place to relax in the evenings the view isn't anything special. The washer and dryer were a big plus, and the on-site manager (who is not who you correspond with in booking) was really responsive the couple of times we needed anything. The owner provided plenty of paper towels and toilet paper, which is not always the case with rentals, and there were smart TV's in every bedroom. NEGATIVES There was a ton of minor maintenance the unit really needs, to list: loose knobs on almost every cabinet, a microwave that has a 5 and 0 buttons that don't work, a toaster where the right two slots don't function to raise the bread and at one point wouldn't even heat, a very loose handle on the patio glass door, a screen door on the patio that was frozen in place, and dresser drawers in one bedroom that no longer opened and closed. None of those are huge, but none are also particularly expensive and could make the place a whole lot better as it was otherwise in good working order. There is also no dishwasher, which isn't the end of the world but almost all of the dishes had a greasy feeling so we ended up rewashing everything we wanted to used and separating what we washed from everything else. Again, don't mind handwashing but the cleanliness of dishes should be ensured. There was also somewhat of a weird mix of what was stocked in the kitchen and mostly it needs more pots and pans and cookie sheets as options were very limited. No tray under the dish rack meant the water from drying dishes went everywhere. we were also surprised there wasn't even salt and pepper there and we had to buy everything...most places have at least a couple of basics available. In an effort to keep them new or clean I guess the mattresses are still wrapped in plastic like they just came from the store so they are loud and get a little hot...they really need some mattress covers instead! The one other area of improvement would be logistics. Arrival instructions did not include what to do once there, and there was no "guide" inside to explain things like wifi, where the washer is, checkout expectations, etc. If the owner can address these relatively minor items and reply here, feel safe booking this unit!

Hi Joel, First I want to thank you for giving us the opportunity to host your stay here in St. Thomas and we hope that your vacation was everything you hope for and more. I want to thank you for leaving suck a detailed review and allowing me the opportunity to respond to some of the claims that you mentioned. Upon further investigation, regarding the kitchen knobs, they are not loose, they were originally like that when installed, but we will be swapping them out for more sturdy ones since, you brought up the point about them being loose. I apologize about the 2 (TWO) microwave buttons that was not working, We assume you were still able to use it for its intended purpose, and heat up your food since you didn’t say anything to the host about it. We were unaware of this issue and is working to have it replaced. I spoke to the host about the toaster, and he told me that he bought you a replacement toaster and he tested the one that you said wasn’t working and it indeed was working, when he brought it back, you told him you would hold on to both of them?!?! Not sure why, but I think that issue was resolved at that point. The patio door is in the process of being replaced and as you could see was very old. Here in the islands a dishwasher is not a common item you find in many homes. Normally people from the islands prefer to wash their dishes by hand to ensure they are washed properly, and it helps conserve water, water is a precious commodity in St Thomas and we try to do what we can to converse it as much as possible. Every unit comes equip with the minimum amount of pots and pans to make for a functioning kitchen. We recommend guest ask the host for any additional cooking utensils as required due to space in the unit. Also, We do not keep food items in the units due to COVID 19, We try to limit the possibility of spreading the virus but not having condiments of that sort in the units, we urge all our guest to stop at the grocery store before coming to the house to buy those things to ensure that the guest are the ones that has the on access to it. If it is left in the unit after the guest leave, we toss it out. In regard to the mattresses and the plastic We keep the Mattress in a special mattress bag that keeps it from getting bed bugs or any other critters from making it their home. We do not have a home guide because we have a in home host on site 24/7 that attends to all your needs, and as you mentioned, he is very responsive but we will take your comment into consideration and work on getting something put together for future guest. Again, We would like to thank you for choosing to have us host your stay in the islands and we hope to see you and your family again in the near future.

Last minute cancelation

Travel plans changed after payment received by property manager, but no empathy or alternative offers for one night's accommodation. Some star ratings were low because we didn't experience first-hand the look of the property. #Tragic

Bonnie, we are sorry to hear about your last minute cancellation, I don't recall you reaching out out to us to reschedule or make other accommodations. We pride our selves in ensuring every guest has a great stay/experience with us. So to give us a 1 star review and you did not even stay with us? I think that one is not justified.

Double-booked

I had a horrible experience here. The night before my booking I reached out to the host asking for instructions on check-in - when this should have been done proactively on their end. Anyway, he sent it over and confirmed that I couldn’t check in early because they had another guest which I completely understood. I had only asked because I was arriving in the afternoon and check in wasn’t before 4pm. Upon getting there, I was told that the property was overbooked and another guest had booked it at the same time as me and that I had to leave. Without consulting me properly he canceled my booking and couldn’t find me another property to stay in. I had to spend the whole day ensuring I wouldn’t be homeless as all other hotels were booked due to my visit being in Memorial Day. I got a refund of course but I think it’s super unprofessional for two guests to be double booked, especially when I confirmed the night before. Oh, also getting to the place is not easy either. The directions sent to me was wrong and someone had to meet me to direct me to the place.

Karina, First off again i would like to apologize again for the inconvenience that this has caused you, we take pride in making sure each and every one of guest has a great experience with us. Unfortunately, this situation that I explain was caused by a issue with VRBO calendar sync feature. Although we had a issue with booking, I called around to several other host and even called the booking platform themselves to find you another place as this location was completely booked. I was unable to confirm anything because VRBO would not let me as it was not me that created your reservation. The reason I initially refunded you was because VRBO instructed me to do so in order to try to find you another location. This situation has since been corrected with VRBO and does not portray an ongoing issue at our properties. In regards to the directions. Address on the islands does not work in googlemaps the way they do in the US, We provided you with a google maps link that is pretty straight forward and if followed correctly takes you directly to the home. I am not sure what you did when you open the link but it may not have been what was instructed by us. Again, We do apologize for the inconvenience and hope that you consider us again for a future stay.
