Owner was still cleaning when we arrived. The bathroom floors were left filthy. House was over 85 degrees. She said that happens every afternoon. Dock has rotting wood with screws popping up half an inch which is dangerous. Previous renters left a urine soaked diaper in the lower kitchen cabinet which the owner âcleanerâ didnât find but we did. It was disgusting! We believe they were leaving a statement of the condition they also found. We also found cockroaches and palmetto bugs inside the house and iguana were in the screened porch with holes through the screen.
The property was as listed. Older yes but cute. Fishing with the dock there was excellent. AC did struggle to keep the home cool. Pool was great as well. Plenty of shopping and restaurants need by. All in all my family enjoyed it for the week we stayed.
Where should I start? Doesn't matter, the owner will argue the fact anyway.
The house inside is very nice, the views is beautiful.
If anyone wants pictures of this property & how bad it really is feel free to msg me 910-393-84

Residing on the channel, this place had everything that we wanted. Spacious living areas, screened porch, waterside deck and a small pool to lounge in and complimentary Wi-Fi made the stay wonderful. We will definitely be returning.
The home was better than the listing photos. We had a wonderful stay with good communication from the owner. The dock was one of the best features (docked a 30 ft boat with no problems) and beautiful sea life and interesting critters were all around. Fishing from the dock was great. We enjoyed the home being one story and it felt very relaxed. It is an older home but a little gem and the location on land and sea are fantastic! The dipper pool was refreshing in the heat! Donât sweat the small stuff and have some fun!
Other than a few small repairs needed, the house was perfect for us. We enjoyed our coffee on the porch watching the boaters going thru Vaca Cut Every morning.
Place needs a good cleaning and fixing up. Dirty and disgusting
Very old run down place. Pier is in need of overhaul. Wasnât safe to even walk on. When the current ran the whole pier shakes. The inside of the house looked like it was never cleaned before we got there.
Dishwasher doesnât work and the refrigerator and microwave are disgusting
How this place has a 4+ rating is a mystery.
Alot to be desired. Definitely needs some updates.
Location was great. House was not very clean at all and beds were very uncomfortable. I think that a newspaper would make a better pillow. For the price it really was not worth it in my opinion. Pay a professional cleaning company or something.
The good thing about the house is the location and the fishing is great. However the accommodation was really disappointing, everything was deteriorated and old . As soon as we walk in we smelled dirty . We all were afraid to touch anything because everything was covered in grime. Kitchen drawers and cabinets full of crumbs . My daughter found pieces of old acrylic nails on the floor . We spent our first day cleanning and washing all the bed sheets. Everything inside the house was disgusting. We came all away from north Carolina to have a good vacation but not happened our money was thrown away. Worst vacation ever.
Disgusting - Filthy ***read before making your decision
Easy access between the Gulf and the Atlantic is the only plus. It is definitely older and needs a lot of TLC, updates and landscaping or a gardener. There is a lot of boat traffic and airplane traffic. House was disgustingly dirty upon arrival! We had to take time from our vacation to clean the house. It looked as if it was not cleaned before our arrival, the kitchen floor was filthy. We swept, vacuumed and mopped the floors, cleaned the bathrooms, washed bathroom rugs (very disgusting) & washed bedding. We weren't sure the bedding was clean due to the uncleanliness of the house. Take a look at the master bedroom - bed skirt; it will gross you out. The bathroom floors, walls & doors are very disgusting. Looks like feces on the door in the main bathroom. The front doors of the appliances were disgusting. Cannot see the temperature settings on the stove knobs. The cookware is unsafe to use with it being non-stick cookware that is scratched up exposing the chemicals of the non-stick covering. The couch in the dining room is old, stained and filthy, couldn't trust to sit on it without fear of some sort of bug bite. Oh, by the way, watch your step for cockroaches! The pool was so cold, we couldn't enjoy it. Why advertise a pool if it's not going to heated in the winter months? The bottom of BBQ is rusted out and by-the-way, the coconut rats love the inside of the BBQ. Watch your step on deck, nails & screws! Not a premier property! So much to say, not enough characters allowed.
We stay in Key Colony every year and were really excited about staying right on the Vaca cut this year. It was very nice and convenient for boating, however the house itself left a lot to be desired. Classic run down keys bunker house that needs A LOT of work. Cockroaches, ants and other friends hung out with us during our entire stay. The air conditioner is undersized and couldn't cool the house below 82 degrees during the day, so we were all uncomfortable. We spent the first day we were there cleaning. Our feet were black from all the dirt when we arrived. My wife went to the store to purchase cleaning supplies and got it to a point where it was manageable for our stay. Fun way to spend vacation, right?
The propane tanks were empty so we had to take one to get filled before we could cook for our kids when they were really hungry.
Internet is extremely slow and almost unusable
The day we checked out we were accused of taking the kayaks by the owner. Which we didn't touch the entire time we were there, and after sending my friend by it was determined that the kayak rental company just came to pick them up. Odd.
Hopefully this house gets a deep clean and the air conditioner replaced so people can enjoy the great location!
2nd stay at this location. First was in 2021. Incredible location on the Vaca cut. We had a 26â boat and the dock handled it in every tide cycle. No problem. Abundant sea life all times of day around the dock. Manatees daily, rays, sharks, tarpon, and lots of lobster at night. We were a party of 10 so, the house was a little tight at times. We spent most of our time outdoors so it wasnât a big problem. Everything youâll need is close by. Bait shop within walking distance just up the street. Gas, groceries, restaurants, ice all 10 minutes or less. Owner is extremely communicative and accommodating. Marathon is beautiful. Great stay!
Great little place. Looooved the dock. Spent most of my time with a line in the water. Kids loved swimming and playing in the splash pool and the ocean right off the dock. The location was perfect. Middle of there keys with lots to do in either direction.
If you want low water pressure in the shower, book this house. House needs updating!!! View was very nice.
Family arrived early. And we needed too step out for the house to be readied for us, housekeeping and pool service.
The housekeeping was fine. The pool was not serviced and not cleaned. And when the owner responds with an excuse too this reciew, I will be glad too screen shot what I sent, with No Response from her. That was dissapointing.
To summarize, the house was ok, if your looking for the "WoW", this is not your place. If your lookking for your grandmothers, this is it....good luck
This was our first time renting a home for vacation. Overall the experience was pretty good! The house is in an awesome location right off Vaca cut, whether you like to fish or dive , or just kick back and relax like to The views were beautiful!
I have vacationed in Marathon for 30 years staying in hotels. I decided to buy my first vacation home in 2001. Having a kitchen and barbeque grill to prepare fresh catch is so valuable. Also, having private dockage is a must. The ability to leave gear on the boat is such a plus and so nice not paying a daily dockage fee at a hotel.
The home is on open water, so fishing is good. Snapper are plentiful and a grouper head on the line at dusk can catch a shark. Snorkeling for lobster at slack tide in the nearby seawalls can produce dinner.
