So amazing we immediately booked again!
First of all, Mary might be the nicest human being on the planet. We have stayed with her twice now and are always blown away by how above and beyond she goes. The house is always clean, smells incredible, and her breakfasts are out of this world.
Check in was extremely easy and we were able to just walk right in and settle down. Our dog was extremely comfortable on the property and we always felt he was safe. The location of the house is a very short drive to hiking trails, Seneca Lake, and all of the wineries.
The house itself is so charming and filled with lots of things to do, especially if you want to disconnect for a few hours or days. The wifi worked well for us both times we stayed and we never had an issue. This time it was the dead of winter and the fire was always stoked with wood and heaters were supplied that kept us warm throughout the night.
There are homemade jams for sale in the house that she makes from scratch. THEY ARE AMAZING. You can sample them at breakfast (which is also incredible) while you enjoy a farm to table meal experience.
I highly recommend this host and home! We will definitely be booking her again for our next vacation to the area! If I could give this host and home more than 5 stars I would.
Warm and Cozy Home Owned by a Warm Kind Lady
Great Clean place. Mary is easy to talk to and so kind and would do absolutely anything you ask as well as provide you anything you need. Her place is very comfortable.
It was an absolute pleasure to host Ola and John. Although we didn’t have the chance to meet in person, our communication was consistent. Ola and John were thoughtful and kind, they treated this old house with love and respect and left everything neat and tidy. I highly recommend them as guests to any future hosts.
Magical Farm with Amazing Hostess
This property is conveniently located in a small town with a waterfall running through the middle of it, 5 minutes from the lake, and within 20 minutes of many hiking trails!!
It is a beautiful farm house and is everything the owner says it is and you couldn't ask for more (considering what you are paying), WHAT A STEAL!! It is obvious that a previous reviewer did not fully read the reviews prior to booking or they would have known that the owner is on site as she rescues animals.
In fact, she uses and sells everything she has on the farm and from locals and you can even call her and for a small fee, she will make you breakfast in the morning and you can wake up to the smell of bacon and coffee on a farm and watch the sun come up!!!
The property is on 6 acres and you can walk trails and just enjoy being out of the hustle and bustle of every day life and get back to nature again! In fact the stars and moon at night are just breath taking!!
While I was there, it snowed and the view was just beyond gorgeous! I walked out to the campsite and one of the rescue cats followed me the whole way there and back twice!
When I got back from my winter wonderland walk, the fireplace was just perfect and the complimentary Kurig was perfect!!
The fireplace is the main source of heat, and that’s pretty normal with farm houses. There is tons of wood and there are space heaters in all the upstairs rooms and bathroom if needed; which probably will be over the winter months, as again, this is a farm house!!
You have a kitchenette, but the kitchen is not accessible, and the owner does use this area, but it is usually very early in the morning and later in the evening and she tries really hard to do this when people are not there. Again, she is a widow who lives on the farm and she still cares for the animals. She is an amazing woman with a heart of gold and wouldn’t hurt a fly!!
With this being said, she is not around unless you need her to be and she is readily accessible should you need her!
There is no TV here, but if you read the listing, it doesn't say there is one. It's a farm. Getting back to the good and important things in life is what this place is about. Connecting with yourself and each other. This place isn't for people expecting a hotel experience bc this is a farm. If you want a hotel...rent a hotel. If you want an amazing hostess with great views and an experience of a lifetime....This is is...Doesn't get much better than this!
It was such a joy to host Katie for 4 days and 4 nights. She was full of adventure, saw the beauty in the little things and just shared a genuine warm light in this little place. Katie rekindled the good feelings of sharing my home and why it can be fun to host! Katie, Thank you for your laughter and kindness.
No Heat, Security, Or Privacy
We were delighted when we first entered the property on the night of check-in, the owner had a fire going for us. The place looked cozy.
We woke up FROZEN! Apparently, the downstairs fire was the heat source. It had gone out over night. We settled in downstairs (in layers) drinking coffee and IN WALKS THE OWNER! There is only a curtain that separates the rental from her space.
The owner noticed the fire went out and it was cold. She apologized, started the fire, and told us there were space heaters in the room. She stayed with us for a while, eventually telling us about how she was recently removed from another rental site for HAVING A PHYSICAL ALTERCATION WITH A GUEST. I was intimidated by her story. Since she had easy access to our space, we stayed off the property for a large majority of the day. I did not sleep soundly the second night at all.
We found the space heaters were in the back corners of the closet or in drawers - not out and obvious. When we plugged in the space heaters, it tripped the electric box. These were not a solution for warmth. We again had no heat the second night.
We were never provided a key to the space. We came and went with an unlocked door. We've since been told there is one, but I cannot recall ever seeing one (and I looked).
Things future renters should know:
- You will NOT be renting a full home.
- There is NOT a dependable heat source.
- There is NOT access to a kitchen. The only sink is the upstairs bathroom.
- There are NO TV's (not important to us, but recognize others may be caught off guard by this)
- You WILL be woken up by roosters that live directly outside 2 of 3 bedrooms (owner does provide earplugs)
This property is nicely decorated. If it were advertised and run more like a bed and breakfast (and had dependable heat) I may actually recommend it... Unfortunately, we had different expectations than what we experienced.
I am deeply saddened that this guest felt it was necessary to fabricate such a misrepresentation of her stay in my home. I understand from VRBO that the only course of action I have is to reply to the public (my future guests)
The short fact is, that this guest tried to get away with paying for Just she and her husband and didn’t think I would notice the EXTRA GUESTS that she SNUCK IN. I understand plans change and I am always happy to accommodate , but when this was brought to Heather’s attention she became verbally combative and righteous. Heather has dramatically communicated untruths and a gross misrepresentation of her stay here ~with the exception that there is a fireplace in the living room.
Heather made the reservation and paid for one extra guest, her husband. Heather informed me that they would be bringing their dog and would pay the pet fee upon arrival.
The day of their arrival I communicated the necessary information about parking and just in case I didn’t see them arrive and where their entry to their suite was. She informed me that they would be arriving very late ~ so I then assured them I would have the outdoor lights on, their door would be unlocked, a fire would be blazing in the fireplace, help themselves to the cookies and familiarize themselves with their accommodations. I told them to contact me with any questions or concerns and let them know that I would catch up with them the next day.
Late morning the next day I came in to introduce myself. Heather and her husband were having coffee and remarked how cozy it was, I asked them if they were comfortable upstairs and they had no complaints, remarking that they did not need to turn on the heater as it wasn’t needed.. Since they didn’t need my assistance, I left them with their fireside coffee.
My rebuttal, the house is warm and the heaters are in plain site, and will not trip the breakers. This guest overloaded the bathroom breaker once. I clearly state in my lists by that this is a private 3bdrm guest suite. I provide a key and it is labeled and in plain site on the welcome board. I have Wi-Fi, board games, musical instruments and nature for your entertainment. I will provide you with privacy, care and convenience that will make your stay enjoyable.
I hope that the reviews of my others guests will bring light to the realistic experience that my future guests can expect.
