This was the adventure we were hoping for! We visited with our teens (14 and 16). It is such a beautiful location and we really enjoyed seeing wildlife up close! We saw agouti, river otters, howler monkeys, bats, toucans, and several other beautiful birds during our stay. The rope swing and being able to get in the river was very nice. Mike and the ladies at Cohune are so nice! Mike is very knowledgeable about the area and is happy to share. The food was also amazing! Highly recommend breakfast and dinner at the kitchen. We were a little worried about staying with no AC, but the cabana cools down nicely at night. We had no issues with biting insects. The cabana was tidy, just keep in mind it's has a thatched roof and louvered windows so a little dust might come in. Completely worth the experience and highly recommend staying here!
The room was clean but very basic amenities. No AC but lots of fans. The manger set us up with a driver to Tikal for 120 US. I thought the price was average. Anna was an excellent cook and bartender and very friendly. The river looked inviting but we didnât go in. The food was authentic Belizean.
Our family of four recently stayed at Cohune Palms. Although the setting is beautiful next to the river and the grounds are pretty, the cabana leaves much to be desired. The cabana needs a deep cleaning, it was dusty and the bathroom was tired and dirty. The sheets were stained and a gecko had pooped on the clean bedding before checkin. There was a cockroach in our bathroom one evening, although the rustic style of the cabana means insects and geckos are a possibility. The food on site was overpriced so we didn't eat there, although others said it was mediocre. The bakery a few minutes down the road was excellent. Overall, for the expense of the property, you don't get many amenities and I would likely stay elsewhere next time.
Mike and his staff are absolutely wonderful. They were warm welcoming and full of advice for our time in San Ignacio. This is a lovely property and a bit away from town so it is quiet and you can hear the birds every morning. We really loved our time here! Strongly recommend it.
Stayed here for 3 nights. Everyone was super nice and accommodating. River was amazing to swim in. Didnt eat at the resto so i cant say for that, went into San Ignacio to eat. Cheap taxis that are designated for Bullet Tree so its super easy to get around. Mike was super nice and chill, overall we had a great time. If you wanna get out of the city and relax, go here.
