The house is prettier than its pictures. Everything worked great and we loved sitting near the fireplace after a day of exploring and sipping. Our only suggestion is to message owner for directions. GPS seems to want to take you through farm fields. That said it's the perfect house if you're looking to be in the countryside while exploring the champagne area.
The gite is lively, as is the location.
There are currently major building works being undertaken across the lane from the gite with workers renovating another gite from 0730 most mornings. There was also no phone/internet for last two days of the stay.
Over two weeks since we checked out, we are in dispute with the owner and he has not returned our deposit. He is claiming we broke a fly screen that was already broken and we are in negotiation as to an appropriate amount we should be charged. He has now gone on holiday for two weeks without sorting this out.
I will amend this review once this is finalised.
A delightful well-equipped cottage full of character in lovely surroundings
This was the perfect base for a tour of the champagne region. The lovely lake and woodland surroundings provided a wonderfully peaceful retreat from the days travelling. The cottage is extremely well equipped with all that is needed for cooking and eating including a splendid barbecue. The many artefacts from earlier times give great character and the surrounding woods, lake and countryside are a delight to explore. The living space comfortably took three couples and a baby. A good restaurant, boulangerie and local store are within 10 minutes drive. We would thoroughly recommend the cottage if you wish to be off the beaten track in the peace and quiet of the countryside. Richard Dailly, the owner, is extremely knowledgeable and helpful, especially about champagnes. If time had permitted we would have stayed longer!
We spent a fantastic weekend at this very nice cottage. The house has everything one could possibly need during your stay and has a very homey feel. The owner was expecting us at the agreed time and had already started a wood fire to welcome us. There is wood available for the fireplace of the BBQ. Heating and hot water are also great. The house is located in a farm setting very close to a nice pond and a huge forest ideal for pleasant walks. The view from the upper level of the house to the pond and forest is amazing. You have the feeling of being in the middle of the countryside but the main road is just 3 minutes from the house and Epernay is an easy 20 minute drive away. Car is a must. The owner also gave us nice suggestions for cellar visits and restaurants. If we go back to Champagne we will definitely book the cottage again.
We had a great stay at the house. The house is situated near a nice forest and you have your own private lake (we even saw deer drinking at the lake)! The owner mr. Dailly was very nice and helpful and gave us good suggestions for buying Champagne. The property is a 20 minute drive from Epernay.
This is a very proper house with well tended garden. The kitchen equipment is good and additional fridges and a freezer are available if you donÂŽt want to go shopping during the stay. It is one of the best accommodations IÂŽve been to. We spent our time on walks around the lake and in the woods, visiting the nice villages around and going to Paris, Reims and Epernay.
It is a very calm place with no traffiic at all. ThereÂŽs no cell coverage for mobile phones, but landline with wifi internet access is available.
The proprietor is a very friendly and helpful man. Ask him for advise on where to buy champaign, he has good contacts to regional producers.
WeÂŽll definitely spent another holiday there.
The house was perfect for our two weeks holiday with four adults and one little child. It's a bit outside of the village so it is very calm and there's much space for outside activities like walking in the wood, rowing on the lake or outdoor games. You should go there by car as the next shopping possibility is a bit away. The cottage has much stowing space and several refrigerators.
By car you can also go on excursions to some nice small villages around or to bigger cities like Reims. We also spent one day in Paris, to go there we used the train.
The lessor is friendly, helpful and uncomplicated.
