The location of this place was perfect. The area is quiet but steps off the beach and plenty of restaraunts within a couple blocks. The place is a older but very comfortable. I appreciated having a small fenced area for my dog and also having a comfortable bed. Parking is a little tight for a larger vehicle but doable. The owner is quick and easy to communicate with!
We had a great time in a great location access to the beach couldnât have been better! The local things to do and see and the food was fantastic. This house was a great little spot for us. We truly enjoyed it and would highly recommend it for anybody else.
*AVOID* Shabby, filthy duplex is not as pictured or described; no response from owner.
TL;DR: This VRBO is a bait and switch. Avoid at all costs. Property is not as described and we have submitted formal complaints to VRBO. We contacted the owner during our stay and he did not respond.
First, this property is advertised as a "house" but it is a duplex. Owner seems to be intentionally hiding that fact, as he didn't mention any unit number in the check in either the listing or the check-in instructions (we had to figure it out ourselves, when we arrived). So if you rent this property, you aren't actually staying in the cute beach house pictured (that's a separate unit). Instead, you'll head to the back of the house, where there's a separate entrance for your unit next to an unkempt pile of filthy, rusted, and/or broken beach chairs and toys.
Inside, the furniture is dirty and old. Rugs throughout the property are dirty and appear to have been bought 10 years ago. We got only 6 very thin, old towels provided for a week's stay; I messaged the owner to ask where I'd find more towels as the listing says "plenty of towels" but he did not reply.
The bed in the king room has a fluffy polyester-filled comforter (not the lightweight quilt that is pictured) which I highly doubt is laundered between guests.
I spent the first half day of vacation scrubbing down the walls of the unit because they were absolutely covered in what appeared to be years' worth of accumulation of dirt and grime. Then I went to Wal-Mart and spent nearly $300 on household items because what was at the house was nothing I wanted to touch. I bought cleaning supplies, new rugs, towels, and table coverings to cover the dirty table on the deck and the broken coffee table on the deck.
The deck is no as pictured, either. The furniture is old and half-broken. And there was no umbrella, lounge chairs, or cute beachy pillows.
The fenced space for dogs is very small and the fence is falling down. It was nice to have a fenced area, but it was as shabby as the rest of the property.
The ceilings in the bedrooms are an eyesore. The plaster is falling apart in patches and they are either stained or moldy (or both).
When we arrived, the outdoor shower was broken (shower head was broken off). Fortunately someone arrived during our stay to replace it.
Pros: You're close to the beach, the place is dog friendly, and the washer and dryer work. Those are literally the only pros.
Avoid this property at all costs. There are much nicer properties for the money.
We loved staying here!! This house is in a perfect location!! Itâs steps to the beach and some awesome restaurants! We were very appreciative of the beach chairs, beach mat, and sand toys there! The property owner was super friendly! We will definitely be back!
This beach house was wonderful. Beach location was excellent and Craig was excellent at answering our questions.. I would highly recommend this beach house for your St Augustine Beach trip.
