Now in splendid ruins, this was one of England’s great Cistercian abbeys until the Dissolution of the Monasteries in 1538. Lace up your walking boots or hop onto the saddle to find footpaths and routes through the picturesque moors. Venture 6 miles to the beautiful Howardian Hills or while away an afternoon at the impressive stately home of Castle Howard, set in gorgeous parkland, 11 miles away. Climb the stone steps up to the cottage and enter to find accommodation with underfloor heating and a welcoming appeal. At the heart of the Yorkshire retreat is an open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner. Make yourselves at home in here as you unwind on the comfortable seating in front of the Smart TV between your many trips out.
