Villa Solbakk is perched on a hillside in the desirable village of Plaka, just 500m easy walk from the cute main square that is ringed by a handful of charming tavernas and 2 well stocked mini markets, and only 1km from Almyridaâs inviting sandy beaches, crystal clear sea, cafes, tavernas, and shops, Boasting a sprawling view of the azure Aegean Sea, this 3 bedroom, 1 œ bath, two storey contemporary villa is fringed by manicured flowerbeds, and a gleaming 10m long oval pool, making it a perfect home away from home for families, friends, or couples.
The villa takes its name from the Norwegian for âsun bathâ and the reason for this is particularly evident on the large main terrace that is punctuated by the inviting pool, and well equipped with sun loungers, a large dining table for 6, an egg swing chair, a covered alcove which has a marble bar, a fridge, a barbecue, a cocktail table and chairs, endowing the villa with every outdoor amenity one could want. During the Winter of 2024/25 a stylish spiral outside shower unit is being constructed on one side of the pool terrace using local stone that matches the stone perimeter walls and the paving on the terraces. This will essentially add a further âshower roomâ to the villa, enabling our guests to enjoy completely private al-fresco showers, with hot and cold running water.
Villa Solbakk is surrounded by lovingly curated landscaping featuring lush flora that includes colourful bougainvillea, canna lilies, lantana (also known as the butterfly bush), bird of paradise, oleander, African daisies, wild garlic, yucca, bottlebrush bushes, strawberries, rosemary, mint, carob and pine trees. Immediately below the pool terrace, the lower garden is planted with fruit trees, plumbago, and very large prickly pears. The plot is completely gated and fenced, and there are 2 private parking spaces.
Inside, the pleasingly muted colour scheme in greys, blacks, and white highlights the tasteful decor and modern amenities that include smart lights, a fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher, juicer, microwave, electric stove and oven, kettle, French press coffee maker and lovely ceramic table settings. An outdoor covered terrace on the 2nd floor features a light grey rattan dining set and further affords the enviable vista. A large round faux marble dining table in the open kitchen/living area provides seating for 6 while a sofa and two arm chairs in the living room (with two additional chairs) offers relaxing seating options for your family or group. A 42-inch wall-mounted Smart TV with surround sound speakers allows for enjoyable viewing on movie nights. Again, the bay and village vista augment the comfort and beauty of this lovely villa, with the vibrant sunsets being a particular delight.
Downstairs, on the same floor as the villaâs entrance, 3 bedrooms (two of which have double doors that open out to the expansive pool and outdoor patios) and a full bathroom comprise the serene sleeping areas. The principal bedroom features a king-size bed with ample closet space, and the second and third bedrooms offer a double, and two single beds, respectively, also with enclosed wardrobe space.

Whilst most travel companies cover many different countries and/or areas of Greece and Crete, we at Villas Crete Holidays only work in the North West of Crete and we specialise in the Apokoranas region, just east of the historic Venetian town of Chania.
The director of Villas Crete Holidays is Frankie Miles. She has worked with rental villas on Crete for more than 25 years and has written the best-selling guidebook, "Crete on the Road". The book includes detailed directions and information to all the major tourist attractions, as well as many hidden sites. Also in the book is the only existing map of the National Highway showing all of the entrances/exits and distances.
Both the company itself and Frankie's book have been featured and recommended in articles in major British newspapers including the Sunday Mail and the Sunday Telegraph, as well as smaller publications such as Greece Magazine.
