Tom’s Place offers comfortable, cosy accommodation for 4 close to the centre of Kirkcudbright. The town with its working harbour and local fishing fleet is within easy walking distance.
Known as ‘The Artist Town’ due to its connections to the ‘Glasgow Boys and Girls’, the town is a thriving centre for arts and crafts and is home to numerous private galleries and the public Kirkcudbright Galleries which hosts a wide range of exhibitions. The town has a good range of independent shops and a wide choice of places to eat out, a community run swimming pool and an 18 hole golf course with numerous others within easy reach. The town is also home to the Dark Sky Gin Distillery, next to which you will discover the Dark Sky Planetarium, a state of the art, interactive space themed experience which is well worth a visit and learn about our night skies. Whilst the nearby Station House Cookery School offers various courses throughout the year. If History is your thing the NTS property Broughton House home of the artist E.A Hornel along with its Japanese inspired garden is located on the High Street, with MacLellan’s Castle holding court over the town. Barrhill Woods can be found on the edge of town and offers opportunities to get up close to wildlife, in particular its Red Squirrel population.
The local area is renowned for its stunning landscapes which include rugged sea shores intermixed with quiet sandy beaches and travelling inland to the Galloway Forest Park, Britain’s first Dark Sky Park is close by with extensive walking and mountain bike trails. For the young at heart a visit to the nearby Cocoa Bean Chocolate Factory is a must with its chocolate making workshops and both indoor and outdoor play areas. Cream o’ Galloway renowned for its Ice Cream offers cheese and ice cream making workshops, or you can wander around its nature trails rounded off with an ice cream! The Galloway Activity Centre on nearby Loch Ken is within easy reach offers both land and water-based activities.
