History-rich Clonmell is the only town in Ireland that was able to repel Oliver Cromwell's New Model Army during his siege of Ireland in the 17th century. The residents were evacuated to safety utilising General O'Neill's strategies. With the majestic Comeragh Mountains serving as a striking backdrop, the neighbouring Nire Valley provides several chances for cycling and strolling.
