Machrie View - a lodge that sleeps 8 guests in 4 bedrooms

The lodge boasts four beautifully furnished, individually designed bedrooms with 'ziplock hotel' beds which can be configured to your preference: four superking sized double beds (1 per bedroom) / eight twin beds (2 per bedroom) or a combination of both. Each of the four bedrooms have en-suite shower rooms. There is also a separate bathroom which is perfect for a relaxing bath or (if you are like us) to bathe young children.

The open plan kitchen, dining area and lounge is located on the first floor to take advantage of the uninterrupted breath-taking views over Laggan Bay, the Mull of Oa and out to the Atlantic.

The space is perfect to relax and socialise with an adjacent balcony which allows you to take in the fresh air or dine and drink al fresco!

Nb. There is a minimum three night stay required for bookings. If this does not suit your requirements please contact us directly to discuss; we will aim to be as flexible as possible.

Islay is the southernmost island of the Inner Hebrides, just off the West Coast of Scotland. Known as the ‘Queen of the Hebrides', Islay is an amazing island experience – dramatic coastal seascapes, wild inland freshwater lochs, some of the best wild brown trout and salmon fishing and numerous species of wildlife, especially birds.

There's plenty to explore on Islay – whether it's a trip back in time to explore the heritage and history of the island; a trip to the world-famous whisky distilleries of Laphroaig, Lagavulin, Ardbeg or Bowmore (to name but a few!), a round on the recently redesigned Machrie Links or a more adventurous outdoor experience – there will be something to suit your tastes.

For the food lovers amongst you, there is a thriving restaurant scene which can be found in Port Ellen, Bowmore and Port Charlotte which showcases the best produce that the island and the West Coast of Scotland has to offer.

No matter what time of year you choose to visit Islay, you will be in awe of the natural beauty of the Island!

A wonderful home in a beautiful setting

We spent 3 nights here as a group of 7 and everything was just wonderful. The rooms were spacious, beds were comfortable, the house was so clean and modern. We all agreed it was a fantastic place to stay and absolutely perfect for our needs.

Perfect place to stay in Islay .

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Our stay at The Machrie View was absolutely perfect! The location is fantastic, with breathtaking scenery all around stunning coastline, and incredible sunsets. The peace and quiet made it the ideal getaway, allowing us to truly relax and unwind. After a hard days whisky tastings and exploring the island. The accommodation itself was beautifully furnished, with every detail thoughtfully considered for comfort and style. It felt like a home away from home, yet with a touch of luxury. From start to finish, our experience was exceptional, and we’re already counting down the days until we can return. If you’re looking for a serene, picturesque escape on Islay, The Machrie View is the place to be! Highly recommended—we can’t wait to come back .

Amazing house, amazing views!

Lovely house, fantastic views. Central to Port Ellen and Bowmore was a great location. The beech Close by is wonderful. We loved staying at this house and didn't want to leave. Can't wait to return!

Lovely house. Great location.

Machrie View is an excellent place to stay. Beautiful house in a perfect location. Ideal base from which to enjoy Islay and a very comfortable house to relax in after a nice day out exploring. Cannot recommend Machrie highly enough. It helped make our holiday very special. Would definitely stay again.

Excellent trip

A great house in great condition in a great location! We were 4 couples, a young child and a dog. The house was very clean and ideal for our needs. Whilst we all drove and got the ferry across, being next to the airport was an added bonus seeing the plane twice a day (for the children of all ages!). The windows are very well insulated and completely blocked any road/plane noise. We would have no hesitation in staying here again.

Fantastic house perfect for a larger family or group

Celebrated a family birthday and it was a perfect size of home for our grown up children, partners and us. Four en-suite bedrooms and plenty of room for everyone to have their own space. A great location for Port Ellen. Support from property manager was great when we needed it. Overall a great find and we would all love to go back and/or transport the house to Glasgow :)

Nice weekend away

Generally we had a lovely weekend staying at Machrie View. The beds and sofa are very comfortable and the views from the kitchen out over the island are beautiful. We liked watching the little planes land and take off and there is no airport noise. There were a few areas with room for improvement. The house is very hot all the time, we constantly were needing the windows open and with a strong wind outside we had to be careful to stop doors slamming. Some of the windows wouldn’t open. The outside of the home is quite cluttered and a bit more tired than the photos suggest. We had a few issues with cleaning materials missing and a broken front door handle but the manager of the property did address these issues promptly.

A Relaxing Retreat with Amazing Views

We spent a wonderful New Year break at Machrie View. The property was immaculate with every convenience one would need. There are amazing views giving a constantly changing vista yet with all "mod cons" for tech savvy guests. Islay is a beautifully quiet place to spend time to relax and decompress. Locals are extremely welcoming with plenty of choice of distillery visits. We hope to visit again soon. Thank you Sam and Team Machrie.

Great time

Machrie View is a splendid place to spend your vacation in Islay. It is conveniently located next to the airport (but don't worry there's only 2 flights in and 2 flights out all day so its not a nuisance) and is also located just a short drive to Port Ellen where there's pubs, a grocery store etc. The house itself is beautiful, quite spacious and great for a large group. All your amenities are in good working order. I would recommend this place to anyone else and if I return to Islay I would stay here again.

Overall we were happy with the property. The location was central and we enjoyed watching the activity at the airport. Our negatives are minor but would make a difference and proffered to help, not complain. -For the price we would have expected a welcome basket even if just bread, milk, and some local biscuits. -There are Loads of glasses but a limited number of (and small) cups. Could also do with egg cups. -The exterior could be better landscaped and building materials moved from the outside to make the property look finished. - A visitor book would be helpful where guests could write comments. -We arrived on a very warm day. The level of heat in the bathrooms, particularly, was extreme. Opening a window helped but that felt so wasteful! We needed some instructions on the exterior lights which we couldn’t control. So lights were unnecessarily on throughout the night.

Lovely House

A fantastic property with everything you could need for a comfortable visit to Islay. The house is very nicely decorated and equipped with very modern appliances. 4 large comfortable bedrooms are very flexible in their presentation. The location in the centre of the Island is ideal for exploring and the view over towards Machrie and the sea beyond is as good as it gets. The house is very near the runway of Islay airport and you are certainly affected by aircraft noise but there are only two or three flights a day and none scheduled for during the night and so this isn’t really an issue.

Brand new house decorated to a high standard with great facilities in a beautiful setting

The building is less than a year old so in very good condition and has been designed with comfort in mind. The kitchen and relaxing areas are fantastic and have everything you could possibly need for adult groups or young children alike regardless of the weather outside. The rooms have loads of space and the beds are very comfortable - it feels luxurious. Like every rental, there is a hint of Ikea DIY with some of the furniture especially items that haven't been built properly (drawers etc) but the large and practical bathrooms and living spaces more than make up for it. Plenty space for 6 cars and laydown area for sporting equipment outside, there is a parameter fence and hopefully there will be a gate when we return next year so our dog can roam free without chasing the sheep! A+ holiday rental compared to others on Islay we've stayed in over the past 15 years, we're already booked for next year.
