Historic Tram
THE TRAM
This Tram is a beautifully restored bottom deck of what was a Double Deck tram, Built by the Wallasey Tram Company in 1902, been lovingly restored to offer bespoke holiday accommodation. The Tram has lots of original features and a few additions including woodburner, 1 double bed, indoor/outdoor cooking & seating, kitchen, fridge, microwave, bbq, everything you need, veranda with spectacular views down the valley to distant mountains. Besoke bathroom with flushing loo & hot shower.
The Tram once had two spiral staircases at either end which provided access to the top deck, unfortunately, we only have the lower deck, however, the lower deck was much more opulant and this shows in the lovely attention to detail that was created when it was made in 1902c. It has carving, fret and filigre woodwork inside and lovely beveled glass quarter light windows, many of which still open. We have kept the inside uncomplicated to not interfere with the authenticity of this beautiful space. Our Tram was number 75 as found on the back of the door during restoration, however, there is a photo & video of number 78 (the last one they made) all fully restored by the Wallasey Tram Museum on their website.
Inside is just one large space with a glass fronted woodburner, 5â wide double bed (width of tram is 5ââ 10â so this is the length of bed), mains fridge, kettle, toaster, microwave, table and chairs, radio, games, OS maps and all finished off with silk curtains and LED lighting behind the air vents. 1 original bench seat.
Outside under the Veranda is the kitchen with sink, shelving with all your pots and pans, bins, gas camping stove and wooden work surface. This is all under the verandha that stretches around two sides of the Tram. Led lighting for outside dining with table and chairs, bench & Small patio area for bbq in the front and rear garden where the NEW bespoke flushing loo and hot electric shower is situated about 10 feet behind the Tram in its own building.
The Tram is listed to 'Instant Book' if the dates that it is available work for you.
Sorry, but we have to have a strictly âNo Dogsâ policy as we are completely surrounded by sheep!
Guests will have private access to the Tram through a living willow arch and the gardens around the tram. It is very peaceful and quiet here with only the sound of the birds, wind in the trees and the occasional sheep bleating! Ideal if you want to relax and âget away from it allâ for few days.
We have been creating our very own nature reserve/conservation area here within the 5 acres, which you are welcome to enjoy/explore, including the woodland with 1200 trees planted in 2011 with pathâs mowed through to lead you through this spectacular area, established wildlife pond, wild flowers, native birds and a mature woodland area also. With addition of an additional 300 native trees last winter. There are benches throughout the woodland area for you to sit and take it all in. Absolutely magnificent 40 mile views across the valley looking east and south embraced by mountains on either side. A good place to catch the last of the evening sun is up here.
We are 4 miles from the nearest market town of Llanidloes with lots of independant shops selling local produce and we encourage guests to support our rural economy and shops if possible and discourage lots of plastic waste as much as possible.
The Goetre is on a 'bore hole' for fresh water which gets tested every year and is absolutely pure drinking water so please do not bring plastic bottled water.
6 miles from Caersws railway station.
We are nestled on the escarpment of the Cambrian Mountains at 1100 feet in upland Montgomeryshire in fantastic walking country. The nearest local beaches about 40/50 minutes away are Ynys Las, Borth, Aberdovey, Twywn. There are lakes, nearest is Llyn Clwedog with a sailing club with new paddle boarding experiences, (2 miles as crow flies) , the Elan Valley, Lake Vyrnwy and Bala. Mountains, Cadar Idris about 1 hour away second highest mountain in Wales or Snowdonia, 2 hrs, highest.
River Severn and Wye start very close by too and has a good signposted walk to the source and great for canoeing. Powys Castle. Steam railways, Devils Bridge, Glyndwr's Way, Offas Dyke. I have lots of leaflets in the cottage of things to do, places to go. Safari on the Cambrian moutains, motorcross and fabulous mountain biking tracks near by too.
Llanidloes is our nearest town which has lots if independent shops selling local produce, Saturday is market day; and it also has a Coop and Spar supermarket. The best coffee and food in Llanidloes is in the Great Oak Cafe at the top of Great Oak Street which has a lovely garden in the back yard. Llanidloes also has The Minerva Art Centre which usually has an exhibition on and the only medieval timber framed market hall in Wales with a fabulous permanent exhibition of the history of timber framed buildings (currently closed).
Llanidloes is the first town on the River Severn and was established as a weaving town and also famous for the significant part in played in the 'Chartist' movement and 'Rebecca Riots' in the 1830's. It is one of the loveliest small towns in Mid Wales and was recently voted the 3rd best place to live in Wales! You are guaranteed to get a friendly welcome. Please support our local rural economy.
