This place is so peaceful. We enjoyed kayaking to the small reef for snorkling and a paddle over to the village. If you go, you be sure to request Miriam's meals. They are wonderful and Tina's deserts and breads are the best! She even made a decadent chocolate cake for my husbands birthday. This is s perfect place to "get away".

Awesome awesome awesome!

I loved every hour of our stay. Quiet, clean, relaxing, everything you want on vacation. Felt like home. Tina and Gary are gracious hosts and made us feel at home. I was so sad to leave. The only bad side is that I only booked for 3 days and would have loved to stay longer. Thank you again Tina and Gary. Ps thank you to Miriam for your great meals!

Paradise in the jungle

My husband and I absolutely loved our stay. Tina and Gary were super friendly and knowledgeable, and they had 2 very cute dogs! The place was just as described. Quiet, simple, peaceful. Loved having access to the kayaks. Good snorkeling and fishing. Kitchen accessible at all times. Drinks and snacks always available. Private chef for dinner. Super affordable . What's not to love? We will definitely be back!

Piece of Paradise

Gary and Tina have really found a piece of paradise and built it up into a lovely little resort. It is in the middle of the real Belize. Closer to nature than The other locations that I stayed. There were dolphins visible from the dock. The beautiful reef, teeming with fish was a short paddle away. The Belizean cook made creative dinners nightly. Fresh catch of the day was delivered by a local fishermen to the dock. The number and variety of birds was amazing! I’ll be back!

My vacation at this resort felt like spending time with treasured family and friends. It was my first solo trip and a truly magical week. I met several people also staying at the resort and I feel certain we will be lifelong friends. The way the resort contributed to this is the charming screened in dining area where a very kind local cook prepares Caribbean style meals and where guests can all sit together to eat. The hosts, Tina and Gary and their two super friendly dogs frequently hang out on the deck having coffee and chatting with us. Tina is a marvel at helping guests navigate travel around the Monkey River area with much helpful advice. The rooms are lovely cabin like spaces with everything you need for very comfortable respite. What the resort is NOT… a huge, flashy, busy crowded place that feels impersonal and typical. Those of us who love the vibe at Monkey River Resort would prefer anyone with those expectations stay somewhere else!! Thank you Tina, Gary and your furry kids for an exceptional vacation!! I can’t wait to come back!!

Peaceful getaway

I stayed at the property with my boyfriend and we were lucky enough to be the only guests during our stay. Due to the seclusion of the property we opted to take advantage of the private chef that came and cooked breakfast and dinner for us. Everything was incredible. Especially the fryjacks. Gary was a great host and ensured we knew about all the amenities around the resort. I took advantage of kayaking. They have several available for use. As well as snorkling gear. The room was quant and comfortable. The best views!! My boyfriend said it was the best shower hes ever had. We didnt get to meet Tina but we did get some of her banana chocolate chip cake dessert and it was delicious. Also worth mentioning is that they provide you with bug spray. That is essential. I was not lucky enough to see manatees but we scored big with the monkeys. If in doubt, just book it!!

I had a wonderful time staying at Monkey Beach Retreat! The place is even more beautiful than the photos show. The beach and water are fantastic, the hosts (Gary and Tina) are very welcoming and helpful, and I definitely recommend Miss Miriam’s meals. I highly recommend staying here!
