SAUNA AND COSY OLD WOODEN SWISS MOUNTAIN CHALET IN GRYON AND GARDEN
This lovely old wooden Swiss chalet with low ceilings and pretty garden, plus bedroom balcony and terrace is a wonderful place to rest and enjoy the mountains. It comes with the tradition of an old wooden chalet but with the amenities of modern day living.
The sauna on the lower ground floor accessed from the terrace and steps down to the garden has its own private shower room and can easily be turned into the second bedroom for 1 person.
On the middle floor is a fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher and microwave and a charming living/dining room with a wood burning stove, which can heat the chalet in no time, and has a view of the village church.
On the upper floor is a separate w.c. a bath and washing machine area which leads to the large bedroom capable of sleeping 2 adults and 2 small children. The bedroom opens out onto a delightful balcony overlooking the mountains in the distance and the village of Gryon. A small pretty garden surrounds the lower side of the chalet.
Only suitable for 2 maybe 3 adults, but not for long periods.
We really enjoyed our stay in Gryon as the location of the chalet is perfect for visiting our family and getting to and from the station. Very clean chalet, very well appointed. The shower downstairs is the one to use as it is full height. Sauna looks good but we never used it.
The location to explore the mountain areas was great. The authentic Swiss chalet had definite character and was comfortable for my husband and me, although taller people do have to be mindful of beams and doorways. Communication and checkin/out were easily done and the sauna was a definite bonus.
The property is lovely and quaint. Set in a beautiful hill-side village with shops and excellent restaurants nearby, it provides all a couple could need. The garden was better than expected as it is fully enclosed and ideal for a dog. Spread over three floors it offers a beautiful sauna, a cosy living room and kitchen, and a very comfortable double bed on the top floor. If you donât want to bend over in the bath on the top floor you can always use the shower in the sauna. The views from the balconies are spectacular and thereâs enough space to eat outside and take it all in. Church bells and creaky floor boards add to the charm. :-)
It is only a short walk to the train and this provides access to the lower valley (Bex) and the mountains. With their âfree passâ (available from Barboleuse for about 5 franks per day) you gain access to excellent train, bus and cable car services covering Gryon-Villars-Diablerets. The pass is great value for money.
We had a wonderful stay and Carol was a great host who responded well to our questions.
Passionate about Switzerland I love the country all year round. It has so much to offer, many people only think of the skiing but it has so much more. I live in England in a quiet area on the Duke of Norfolk's estate in Arundel surrounded by countryside. It is like home from home for me and my nutty Springer Spaniel when he is able to visit. I love letting the chalet and talking to new people and trying to make my guests as comfortable as possible.
If you love the peace and quiet of the Swiss mountains this little bijoux chalet is the ideal cottage, especially for a couple offering the sauna, gardens and outside space to dine and drink, in a romantic getaway.
If you want a taste of the traditional whilst offering modern day facilities, this is the place to come.
