The Boathouse has fantastic country views near spectacular coastal walks
Relax in the upstairs lounge enjoying the open country views, the wildlife on the window ledge and spectacular sunsets. Sleep snugly in the comfortable beds and dream sweetly in the silence of a Aberdeenshire country night. Take a short walk to Catterline to see the seals and enjoy a meal and a pint of real ale at the Creel Inn. Visit Fowlsheugh RSPB reserve and spot the puffins amongst the thousands of guillemots and razorbills.
Absolutely beautiful place to stay! Very clean and well stocked with all the supplies needed for multiple people to stay comfortably. Great views for the main room. A very short drive to the main town.
We had a really lovely stay at the boathouseâone senior and two adultsâand it worked perfectly for us. The area is quiet and peaceful, which we really appreciated, and itâs so close to Dunnottar Castle. The house itself was super comfortable with great beds and all the amenities we needed. We felt right at home. Communication with the host was friendly, and helpful. A great place to relax and enjoy the countryside.
Nice place to stay to discover the Scottish coastline
this is a very nice house wich provides you with everything you need. In case something is missing the owners are living just next to it and are very responsive, even though we never met them in person.
The only downside is the master-bed, which is for two adults definitly too small (except you are on a honeymoon ;-)
We LOVED staying at the Boathouse. The property was perfect for our 10 day self isolation, containing everything we needed - from laundry facilities to potato masher and cheese grater. It is a gem in the countryside, but conveniently close to grocery store. Mercedes and Gordon are gracious hosts, friendly and helpful but never invasive. We look forward to our next opportunity to stay at the Boathouse!
The house was very clean and in general well equiped. Beds were comfortablr but there wasn't a kingsize and the second double was in fact a bed settee (some kind of futon) - they were comfortable but not as described. The bunk beds had very little headroom for the bottom bed user.
Sadly the views of open countryside were spoiled as the field next to the house was a building site.
The property sleeps 6 but there were only 5 comfortable seats in the lounge - three seater settee and two arm chairs.
The coast is a good 1.3 mile walk from the property.
We are in an area which is ideal for walking or cycling to breathe in the cool country air. The beauty of the clifftop Catterline village is within walking distance, as is the RSPB nature reserve at Fowlsheugh where you can see around 130,000 seabirds during nesting season. Puffins, dolphins and the occasional minke whale may also be spotted. The historic ruins of Dunnotar castle are a short drive away just before Stonehaven. Heading south is the land of Lewis Grassic Gibbon at Arbuthnott and beyond that one of the most beautiful beaches in Scotland at St Cyrus
