A comfortable, self-contained suite in a restored 19th-century vila (RRAL 980)

Comfortable, modern suite on the ground floor of a completely restored 19th-century villa in rural SĂŁo Miguel, Azores. The suite features a large bedroom and a fire place in the living room.

At the base of the Sete Cidades volcano and on the edge of the town of Capelas, Vila Alegre is only a short drive from north and south coast beaches, as well as the island's main city, Ponta Delgada. Once our family’s summer home, Vila Alegre has been completely renovated. It was our dream to blend the form and character of a traditional Azorean country home with modern comforts.

Enjoy carefully restored antique furniture as well as a new mattresses and sofas. With our wonderful temperate climate, a wood burning fireplace and electric heaters warms the suite during winter stays; thick stone walls and tile keep the suite cool in the summer. With respect to sound, the suite is extremely well insulated, with concrete between floors guaranteeing privacy and eliminating the sound bleed between the suites. The suites includes WIFI, cable TV in various languages, as well as secure parking within the traditional stone walls of the property

Enjoy easy walks to local shops, country lanes and full access to the property's serene gardens. At Vila Alegre, our beautiful gardens, walkways, benches and gazebo are all around you. Enjoy our covered outdoor barbecue patio and many spaces in the gardens for relaxation, contemplation, or play.

At Vila Alegre we welcome people from all around the world and all walks of life. Whether you're looking for a romantic weekend getaway, a longer stay in the country, or a relaxing family vacation, Vila Alegre is a spectacular, one-of-a-kind home base for your stay in SĂŁo Miguel. Public transport passes directly in front of Vila Alegre for the short ride south into Ponta Delgada or north into Capelas.

QuiĂ©tude d’un hĂ©bergement Açorien

Antonio est un hĂŽte trĂšs accueillant et prĂ©venant et parlant trĂšs bien français. Il nous partage sa maison et son magnifique jardin. Capelas est un point de chute trĂšs sympa pour visiter Sao Miguel avec de bons petits restos, une piscine « naturelle » trĂšs sympa pour profiter de la baignade et loin de l’agitation touristique.

The owner greeted us and happily answered any questions. The location is 15 minutes from the airport and centrally on the island so we easily drove to all points of interest. The décor was fascinating antiques and modern kitchen appliances. The yard is a large magical garden with fruit trees and chickens. We loved it.

Die Unterkunft ist sehr gemĂŒtlich und authentisch eingerichtet. Sie ist umgeben von traumhaften GĂ€rten, die genutzt werden dĂŒrfen. Es gibt ausreichend ParkplĂ€tze direkt vor der TĂŒre. In der Stadt Capelas gibt es einen wunderbaren "Pool" (piscina naturais) und von der Unterkunft aus erreicht man alle Highlights der Insel. Der Gastgeber ist sehr zuvorkommend und spricht sehr gut Englisch. 10 von 10 Punkten!
Die GĂ€rten sind wunderbar, um zu entspannen. FĂŒr Naturliebhaber!

Unser Aufenthalt in Vila Alegre war hervorragend! Die Lage der Unterkunft ist strategisch sehr gut, man kommt an alle Ecken der Insel gut hin. Das Haus selbst ist sehr sauber und gerĂ€umig und hat einen wunderschönen riesigen Garten, der fast parkĂ€hnlich ist. Zum Haus gehört außerdem ein Sonnenraum, aus dem man in den Garten blickt und gelegentlich eins von AntĂłnios HĂŒhnern beim spazierengehen beobachten kann. Besonders ĂŒberwĂ€ltigt waren wir von AntĂłnios Gastfreundschaft, diese ist einfach nicht zu ĂŒbertreffen! Er hatte uns einige lokale SpezialitĂ€ten bereitgestellt, darunter Brot, Butter, Milch, frische Bananen aus dem eigenen Garten, Eier der eigenen HĂŒhner, ein sehr leckerer KĂ€se aus Sāo Miguel, sowie natĂŒrlich die lokale Ananas, die man unbedingt probieren muss. AntĂłnio hat sich bei unserer Ankunft viel Zeit genommen, um uns alles im Haus zu erklĂ€ren und hat uns spĂ€ter auch noch viele hilfreiche Tipps zu anderen Inseln, die wir besuchen wollten gegeben.AntĂłnio hatte außerdem die gesamte Wohnung mit vielen seiner wunderschönen Hortensien geschmĂŒckt, so dass wir uns direkt wohlgefĂŒhlt haben. Wir haben uns dort sehr zu Hause gefĂŒhlt und wĂŒrden die Unterkunft jederzeit wieder wĂ€hlen.

As you enter through the large black gates of Vila Alegre your heart skips a beatenchanting and dreamy are the grounds of this property. The flowers, trees, plants and landscaping are captivating. The constant care that Mr. Serpa puts into his gardens is obvious. Once inside you are transported in time with the lovely family antiques commingled with all the amenities you would want. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom large with a window to the gardens. Yet you are only 15 minutes to Ponta Delgada! We were so delighted with all Mr. Serpa providedfresh fruit, eggs, bread, cheese, jam....how generous and kind. Fresh flowers from the garden in the rooms On our last evening he made us a reservation at 4 Plåtanos Restaurant which was outstanding as was our table at the window with gorgeous views. Bianca was spot on with her recommendations all was perfect! If you are able eat here for sure! You will feel privileged and happy to stay at Vila Alegre on this beautiful Island of Săo Miguel.

Nous avons passĂ© un agrĂ©able sĂ©jour chez Antonio. Nous avons apprĂ©ciĂ© grandement revenir Ă  la Vila aprĂšs une longue journĂ©e de randonnĂ©e. Antonio travaille trĂšs fort sur son terrain et c'est pour cela qu'il y a une grande variĂ©tĂ© de fleurs. Egalement, Ă  notre arrivĂ©e nous avions plus que l'essentiel pour un petit dĂ©licieux dĂ©jeuner. Les charmantes poules qui se promĂšnent sur le terrain nous ont fournis d'excellent Ɠufs. Charming place within its own botanical garden!

The perfect place to relax and to discover this wonderful island! The apartment is spacious, comfortable, well-equipped and very peaceful. We enjoyed the inside (especially the wonderful wintergarden) as well as the outside (you feel like you are in a botanical garden!) very much ... also on rainy days! The owner Antonio - who lives upstairs - is lovely, very helpful and was very considerate and respectful of our privaty. The communication was always perfect and we were even surprised by a wonderful welcome package as well as fresh eggs during the week! The location in the middle of the island is perfect to explore the island. Free parking is available directly in front of the house. Grocery stores are available in the little city. A wonderful place which we can recommend and would love to come back to!

Amazing Stay with Antonio!

Everything about our stay was great. Antonio had flawless pre arrival communication, allowed us an early checkin (which was much appreciated after an overnight flight) and welcome light breakfast was extremely hospitable. The property itself was as advertised and perfect for three active people. The setting and all the amazing gardens that are so well loved allowed for a peaceful and tranquil setting each day. Highly recommend this amazing property to all.

Remarkable Refuge!

We were more than happy to have discovered Vila Alegre in the countryside outside of Ponta Delgada. It was beautiful, peaceful, and an amazing place to have been our home base for 5 days in Sao Miguel. Antonio was extremely helpful, knowledgeable, and willing to answer questions to help guide our itinerary while there. We can't say enough good things about our experience there, and we definitely plan to return!

Loved every minute of our stay!

From the moment we arrived and Antonio greeted us, it was perfect! He was such a kind man and we loved hearing about the gardens and enjoyed spending time sitting on the sun porch overlooking the beautiful property. The local foods he provided were delicious and were very much appreciated until we could get to a store. The apartment was spacious and immaculate
and decorated beautifully. Location couldn’t be better to get anywhere on the island. Thank you for a fantastic vacation and we hope to be able to return soon!

I honestly cannot say enough about Antonio‘s property. This place was literally magical. The house was beautiful, amazing roomie. He had tons of antique furniture that just set the tone of the place and made it so comfortable homey and beautiful. And oh my goodness what can I say about the garden that man was out there every day tending to his property and keeping the gardens in shape and man was a beautiful. to be able to come home after a long day and look out over the gardens and see all the birds and hear all the birds and how beautiful his property was. It was amazing and I’m so glad I picked it. It was the best place I could’ve possibly stayed in. To say it was beautiful is an understatement. It is absolutely magical.

Azzorre on the road!

Abbiamo scelto Vila Alegre perchĂ© volevamo vivere in un tipico contesto azzorriano e per poter girare tutta l'isola di Sao Miguel. Si Ăš rivelata in tal senso una scelta perfetta. La casa Ăš molto spaziosa e dotata di tutti i comfort. La veranda che si affaccia sul verde giardino di Antonio ci ha donato momenti di piacevole relax dopo i nostri trekking quotidiani. Antonio Ăš un host eccezionale, ci ha accolto al nostro arrivo facendoci trovare squisiti prodotti tipici per la cena e la colazione, inoltre ci ha fatto la gentilezza di tenere i nostri bagagli il giorno del check out per evitare di tenerli in macchina fino a sera. Ci siamo sentiti come a casa nostra e se dovessimo visitare nuovamente Sao Miguel torneremo sicuramente da Antonio. Vogliamo perĂČ sottolineare che le chiacchierate con Antonio saranno parte dei ricordi piĂč belli perchĂ© viaggiare Ăš anche e soprattutto condivisione. Ti aspettiamo in Italia, Antonio!

Authentic Azores!

When we arrived Antonio was there to greet us and show us the apt. He also graciously supplied breakfast fixings including; local cheese, buns, fresh eggs, fruit and coffee. Such a welcome treat after an early flight. He was also very accommodating and allowed us to check in early and leave a little later than normal. We can’t say enough about our host! The apt is deceptively spacious with nice little touches like fresh flowers from his garden. Antonio explained the house had been his original family home. We were greeted by chickens and rooster each morning (they were kind and didn’t make noise until we were awake). Weather was a little bit of everything while we were there so i recommend dressing in layers. This was a wonderful local Azores experience and we loved all our adventures on the island.

Wonderful stay

Just returned yesterday from the beautiful island of Sao Miguel. This was our third trip and once again it did not disappoint. I can’t give Antonio enough praise for making it so enjoyable! From the treats that were left for us to enjoy to the sunroom where we had our morning coffee and a glass of wine at night, he made sure we were comfortable after returning from a day of sightseeing. We always looked forward to feeding the chickens in the morning before heading out to enjoy our day. The gardens are impeccably maintained and fun to walk around and discover new things. Perfect getaway oasis

Our stay at Antonio's place was a dream. It was quiet with a wonderful garden (and some lovely chickens!). Antonio was so welcoming and attentive to anything we needed. We 100% recommend this property to anyone looking for a quiet place to rewind after a busy day exploring the island
