This apartment is very spacious and open. There are a total of 4 rooms, and it can accommodate a large family or group of friends. Besides a large number of rooms, there is a very nice bathroom with a walk-in shower and lots of storage space. There is a dedicated TV room and a separate living room. There is also a dining area adjacent to a large and fully equipped kitchen with a marvelous gas stove.
We love the luxurious rooms, bookshelves everywhere, and the large kitchen on the 1st floor with the lovely gas stove that our guests love to cook on. The finer details in the decorations all add up to a feeling of a home away from home, in the largest city in the North of Iceland.
There are so many activities and areas to explore, here are some suggestions:
Downtown Akureyri
You are in the middle of everything, right in the middle of downtown Akureyri. Great restaurants, street food right in front of us, an amazing bakery next door, bars on the same street, and around the corner with Icelandic craft beer and other Icelandic Classics, all within a 1 to 10-minute walk from our door, just go out and have fun.
Snow Sports
Hlíðarfjall is one of Iceland’s most popular skiing and snowboarding destinations. For the past 60 years, it has been a reference in Icelandic snow sports and offers a wide variety of cross-country tracks and slopes for any avid snow enthusiast.
Kjarnaskógur Woods
South of Akureyri there are 800 hectares of recently planted trees. This offers multiple options for enjoying the Icelandic wilderness with picnic areas, hiking trails, mountain biking trails, birdwatching shelters, campsites, and much more.
Swimming Pools
Experience the Icelandic heated pool experience. No matter the time of the year any true-blood Icelander will go to the swimming pool. Even in the dead of winter, actually, even during a blizzard. Akureyri offers a great central pool for you to come and lounge and relax after a hard day of traveling.
Old Akureyri
Just south of the town center, you can find the old town of Akureyri. Should you want to take a stroll down this street, you may see the old primary school, theatre, and hospital, built in 1827. In this area, you will also be able to see the first two-floor house built in Iceland, which is in fact the oldest building in Akureyri.
Museum Visits
Akureyri has multiple Museums you might consider paying a visit to, some of which include the Akureyri Museum, The Industrial Museum, The Aviation Museum, The Motorcycle Museum, and the Nooni Museum. The Nooni Museum is the house of the well-known Jesuit priest Jón Sveinsson; also known as "Nonni", who was a children’s books writer.
The Diamond Circle
Just 30 Km outside of Akureyri you can find Goðafoss and the beginning of The Diamond Circle tour. This encompasses Goðafoss, Húsavík, Ásbyrgi Canyon, Dettifoss Waterfall, and finally Mývatn. So you can go to the home of “Jaja Ding Dong” or visit the largest waterfall in Iceland and a myriad of amazing places in one single tour.
Whale Watching
Whale-watching tours are quite prominent in this area of Iceland, find whoever suits you the best and go out to sea and see the most gentle giants that could be. These trips are absolutely worth it at the right time of the year, so do your due diligence.
