The King’s cottage sat untouched for many years as nature took over the surroundings and the only visitors were the osprey overhead and the turtles sunning on a log at the shoreline. Now, it has been transformed into a great vacation spot on an idyllic piece of waterfront with exceptional views of the sunset.
King’s cottage is only a short 2 hour drive from Toronto and is good for couples, solo adventurers, and families (with kids). We welcome you to our cottage to make great memories!
Renovations have included a brand-new kitchen and bathrooms, spacious deck, landscaping, central air, new bay window and french doors walking out to the deck, and a dock where you can enter the calm water and take a cooling swim.
Belmont River flows out of Belmont Lake and King’s Cottage is close enough to the lake that a short boat ride will take you out into the larger water. This stretch of the river is low traffic due to a conservation water level dam a few river bends away, approximately 1/2 km. During high water levels, visitors should be cautious of the current in the middle of the river, while water close to the shore is unaffected. An email will be sent out to visitors close to their stay with details of the current water levels.
However, you may not want to venture far from this tranquil stretch of water which is great for swimming, fishing and exploring in the paddleboat, kayak or stand-up paddle board. Watch for kingfisher, loons, turtles, great blue heron and osprey – it’s a nature lover’s paradise.
Depending on water levels the docks will be put in the long weekend in May and removed October 17th approximately (weather permitting). If renting in early May, due to the fast water current, all water related amenities (kayak, paddle board, paddle boat, water pad, canoe, etc) will not be available. After Victoria Day week all water amenitites will be available. When renting after October 15th, all water amenities will be available with the exception of the paddle boat.
Inside the cottage, the neat and comfortable accommodation has 3 bedrooms, one of which has an en-suite two-piece bathroom. The living space stretches across the waterside of the property with french doors onto the deck which has a patio table and BBQ. For those who want cool shade from the heat of the sun, there is a smaller deck area on the lower level where you can sit and enjoy the perennial garden and the view of the water.
There’s plenty to do in this area of the Kawartha region. Pretty waterside villages, provincial parks, hiking trails, farmers’ markets, and sand beaches are all within an hour’s drive, so take the time to explore too.
Our cottage includes all of the regular comforts of home – washing machine, clothes line, Wi-Fi, en-suite bathroom, running water for bathing and washing dishes, water cooler (water provided), air conditioning, Netflix, propane fireplace, fully equipped kitchen with: microwave, fridge/freezer, stove, coffee maker (filters not included), and toaster. Comfortably hosts 6 people in this 3 bedroom bungalow.
The cottage is situated on a rolling lot with easy water access at the end of the dock and a separate sandy walk-in area. The waterfront is a gradual depth, increasing to about 5' at the end of the dock to a virtually weed-free, sand/rock-bottom lake. The waterfront seating includes a landscaped area with a sandy area by the water and a fire pit (1 bag of firewood provided, additional wood can be purchased locally or at the cottage).
Privacy - we have a permanent summer resident staying in the bunkies on our property, approximately 150 feet from the cottage, they have their own amentities, including their own dock, firepit, and yard, etc, all facing away from the cottage. We have neighbors on the other side approximately 100 feet away, separated by a row of mature trees.
King’s cottage has a large wrap around deck, perfect for entertaining, equipped with a BBQ (hardlined into a large tank therefore no need to switch tanks), patio set, and large patio umbrella if you’re looking for some afternoon shade.
Enjoy coffee on the dock, lunch on the deck, and a glass of wine under the stairs by the fire pit!
We are fully stocked with linens/comforters/blankets (but bring your own beach towels) to make your stay comfortable. Enjoy our small library of movies to watch, books to read, and games to play. This is a family friendly place!
