Beautiful Thanksgiving week
The cottage is lovely - beautiful views from the living room (which was particularly nice since Thanksgiving day temps were in the single digits). We enjoyed watching deer in the yard and seals on distant rocks. Landlord Rick was very helpful; driveway was plowed promptly and he even shoveled a path to our car. We had a great time.
My wife and I spent a nearly a week at Rick's cottage - and enjoyed every day of our stay. It was wonderful to look out every morning and see the towers at Cutler Naval Base across the bay, as well as Libby Lighthouse over along the coast!
We had cold winds, a little rain, and one morning we had a covering of snow, but it was all part of our October Maine experience! My wife loved the kitchen and living room areas - she even did bbq a couple nights on the porch.
We were able to easily drive up through Cutler and visit hiking spots along the "Bold Coast" including Bog Creek Preserve, as well as West Quoddy! Then into Lubec for a wonderful lunch at Frank's Restaurant on the water!
We spent part of one day hiking around the Machias area, then headed up to Eastport for a wonderful lunch at the WACO Diner! Of course, every morning started off with a great breakfast at Helen's Restaurant in Machias!
Several times we were able to enjoy the deer that wander onto the property to enjoy apples from several apple trees. What we most appreciated was the peace and quiet of the cottage, as well as much of the area! If you're looking for waterslides, amusement parks, or night life - Machiasport is definitely not your place! However, if you love the ocean, the cliffs, the evergreen trees, and a more peaceful atmosphere, then this is the place for you!
Thanks, Rick, for giving us our space and allowing us to enjoy each other's company while on the beautiful coast of Downeast Maine! You were a wonderful host and your cottage was a small slice of heaven for Michele and I!!!
Enjoyed walking the beach. 3 deer in the yard. Rick’s recommendations for things to see and places to eat were great!
Beautiful home in a quiet, perfect setting
We stayed here in August and it was the best! The house was perfect, it had everything we needed and more! The bed was so comfortable, the house very clean, and the owner was wonderful! We will be going back! I would recommend staying here if you are looking for a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of life.
Beautiful view with all the comforts!
This cottage was perfect for my family of 4 (two adults and two children aged 3 and 6). We also had my mother spend the night on the cot upstairs one night and she was comfortable. The view from the deck is breathtaking and the surrounding property has a child's play set (my kids LOVED this) apple trees, raspberry bushes and even some wild blueberries. The cottage is set back from the road and quiet. We used the side-by-side to haul our kayak and gear to the landing just down the road. The cottage is very clean with comfortable linens, night lights in all the right places, and the owner was helpful and easy to communicate with. We wished we could stay longer!
Clean, cosy cottage right on the water
My husband, our 5 children, and I really enjoyed our stay at the cottage on Holmes Bay. We walked and played on the beach, picked blueberries and raspberries, and visited state parks for hiking and sightseeing. My husband and boys enjoyed going out with Rick on his motorboat on a nearby lake and eating hamburgers! The house is very clean and comfortable. Just two things: it'd be great to have a picnic table outside, so that we could eat outside and enjoy the fantastic weather. Also, while the house is on the water, there is no direct path from the house to the ocean--this is no big deal for renters who want to enjoy the beautiful views from the property, but for those who want to frolic on the beach, it's a slight inconvenience. Putting a path down to the water would be great for folks who would like direct access. All said, we enjoyed our time at the cottage and are bummed that it has already been let next summer during our dates. We have already made reservations for another house in Washington County right on the water, and are looking forward to heading back up again. We miss the Bold Coast already! Thanks, Rick, for a great rental! :)
