We are delighted to present to you Villa Ignia, a unique and cozy villa nestled within a historically rich building complex on the picturesque island of Santorini. This charming villa offers a range of modern amenities to ensure a comfortable stay for two guests.
Upon entering Villa Ignia, guests will find themselves immersed in the ambiance of traditional architecture dating back to 1896, during the Ottoman rule of Santorini. The complex, characterized by its traditional design featuring canavas (wine storage areas) in the lower levels and living quarters above, reflects the island's rich cultural heritage. The construction of such houses during that time demanded considerable labor and utilized local materials such as stones and volcano stones known as kissira.
Despite its traditional roots, Villa Ignia boasts modern conveniences including outdoor furniture, air conditioning, a flat-screen TV, a tea and coffee maker, as well as a private bathroom complete with a shower and hairdryer. Furthermore, guests can enjoy full access to water, preserved canava sections, and a piece of land within the complex for cultivating produce, maintaining the historical charm while meeting contemporary needs.
Pyrgos, the location of the villa complex, holds significant historical importance as the former capital of Santorini, featuring a well-preserved Venetian castle. The complex itself served as the residence of a prominent merchant family, showcasing their large wine production facilities, which are still preserved today.
While the complex faced adversity, notably the earthquake of 1956, it underwent refurbishment in recent years by renowned Greek architects "4-19 Architects", seamlessly blending modern amenities with historic charm.
Santorini, renowned worldwide for its stunning sunsets, volcanic landscapes, and rich history, invites visitors to explore its myriad attractions. From the prehistoric settlement of Akrotiri to the Ancient Thera and captivating museums, Santorini offers a wealth of cultural experiences. Additionally, guests can indulge in the island's culinary delights and savor the renowned Vinsanto wine while admiring the breathtaking views of the caldera.
We invite you to embark on a journey of discovery and relaxation at Villa Ignia, where history meets luxury amidst the enchanting beauty of Santorini.
