And if I may add in English, that even thése French people, who live in the area and know it well, still find our house and location of great value. This despite it being rather less exotic to them than it is to those who come from other countries. This is, for me, the best compliment we have received this year.
A lovely house in an ideal situation.
The ages of our party ranged from 81 to 11 months and everyone had a wonderful holiday. The house is large, but not overwhelming, and there is plenty of space for everyone to do their own thing. It is very well equipped for children. The focus is of course on the summer kitchen, the pool and the outside terraces and garden, but the salon is a lovely room for a quiet read or chat, and the upper terrace a perfect spot for watching the sun go down.
Everyone enjoyed looking at the fish in the pond and watching them eat the food provided. A swim in the pool was refreshing at all times of the day. The barbecue is excellent.
Pezenas is delightful and everywhere is within walking distance. It is also very well placed for journeys north to the haut Languedoc with lovely villages, mountain scenery, gorges and walks, or for journeys south to the coast and the interesting French towns.
Alaric was very helpful in answering questions before and during our stay and provided excellent and useful information prior to our arrival.
So all in all, pretty perfect!
We enjoyed having you at Maison Alaric, and also thank you for some new ideas for improvement, which we are looking forward to implement this autumn. Glad you liked feeding the koi carp - I'm told by our 'gardien' that they are bigger now... and even friendlier. Thanks again for the review, which I think other prospective guests will find wide ranging and useful.
Large size house with plenty of room. Nice pool. Handy for Pezanez and facilities
It was a large house and we were a party of 11 adults with 5 grand children. Some rooms were a bit cramped as a som rooms had bunk beds.
The pool was a real hit with all not too large but very adequate for young children.
The garden was not very usable and could do with a bit of TLC as the trees needed pruning and a bit of a clear out.
We managed to park four cars at the property which was good as it saved the local parking charges.
As the weather was hot most of the time at the house was spent around the pool when we were there.
Good access to the town restaurants and shops, nice area.
Overal Rating should be 3.75 rather than 3
Well, as the guest ends up concluding that the rating should have been just under four stars after all, I cannot feel bad about this review. Though as we arrived a week after their stay, and used the garden a lot, I was puzzled by the call for pruning, as the trees were pruned in March, and they seemed absolutely fine (the writer did concede in an email to me that he was a keen gardener, so perhaps he knows something we don't about pruning though). But they did have a great time, which is the main thing, and I am sorry that their enthusiasm for the house did not quite achieve the four star rating we normally hope for.
A very large property in need of refurbishment
The property was very large and easily accommodated our Family of 8 adults and 7 children. The front of the house was disappointing (no pictures of this on the website) but the front door gave entrance to a big surprise - a huge marble staircase and hanging chandelier! "Wow" we thought. One of the double bedrooms upstairs had a wall of kitchen units and tiling. Another, twin room for children, under the stairway was very small and in the extremely hot weather, it was stifling. Fans were supplied but having them on all night, as was necessary, meant we exceeded our electricity and gas allowance by over a hundred and twenty pounds. Two of the bedrooms downstairs (children's room with 2 bunk-beds and a double room) had no windows! And the children's room had a washing machine on one wall. The front, twin bedroom, on the ground floor was not made up with linen and on one wall, we discovered floor to ceiling shelving used as a DIY storage area, with a curtain that was insufficiently wide to cover it, entirely. The kitchen was excellent - huge and very well-equipped. The terrace was un-swept on our arrival but large and pleasant to enjoy Family meals. The pool was clean and of good size for a large group. We appreciated the Table-tennis table. The garden, as shown in the pictures on the website bears little resemblance to current reality. It is overgrown and needing attention. On the first morning of our stay, the pump broke down in the fish pond and several large Koi Carp died as a consequence. My Son in Law had to dispose of them, on two occasions, as the smell was so bad. Having dealt with that issue, we were very disappointed to receive a bill for 40 pounds from the owner to restore a small sofa and side lamp table (there was none in the small twin room, upstairs) to their original positions. The Owner explained that the charge was listed in "The Rules," but as we had been so cooperative with him over the fish and pond problem, we found this charge rather petty, in the circumstances. The parking was good for 3 cars, but we had four and we were served with a parking fine after parking one of the cars outside of the front of the house, which we understood to be legal. The description of the house should be amended, as it is too far from reality. Had we have known that two of the bedrooms had no windows, we would not have booked this property.
The review makes many good points, and many that are very positive at that, so I was a little surprised to only get three stars here, but the problems that did arise should have been solved through immediate communication with us, because we have a very reliable manager who comes round the same day, and often solves things on the spot. Though of course the guest getting a parking fine for parking in what is clearly marked as a no parking zone should not have been levelled at us surely? And this guest was not good at communication, which is why the delay in telling us immediately about the broken pond pump resulted in the death of five of our most cherished koi carp - our man could have gone round much sooner if we had been rung up to tell us of this disaster... Finally, I was bewildered by the comment about our garden which, in the heatwave of that week surely offered the maximum of green shade from its trees and Wisteria, which is the whole intention in the first place. True the photos show less growth, as the trees have grown a bit, but to say the photos are a deception is quite wrong.
Frankly, despite my trying to ring on several occasions, we found this guest hard to communicate with, and so a few problems were not solved immediately, which is what we do when such issues arise.
Finally, this guest did move rather a lot of furniture around and then left it for the lady cleaner to move big pieces back to other rooms, and yes, we did ask for a payment for that to which the guest agreed, so how that can be the basis for a complaint when we were the victims I really do not understand at all. Because we were very fair about the damage deposit claim, and put it to him first, and he then agreed to it without arguement or question, which I really think was the correct response given the circumstances...
Great house with good facilities
My 6 friends and I visit a wine region every year. We do this for many years now and this experience certainly ended up in our top 3. The house is extremely large en situated perfectly near the centre of lovely Pézenas. We usually have lunch outside and prepare our evening dish ourselves. The kitchen, the BBQ and the terras offer splendid possibilities to do so. The kitchen is large and well equipped. Even when it is pooring with rain, which is rare, you can sit outside on the terras. Although we came to taste an buy wine, we also spend a lot of time at the coast; in Cap d'Agde we hired a sailing boat and had lunch in the harbour of Sete. The coast is only a 30 minutes drive. For our group this was a perfect location and a perfect house. The contact with the owner was very pleasant; having a professional attitude he responded very quickly at all times. Large groups should consider this place for a relaxing holiday.
"Practically in the center, but quiet and ideally located.
The house is within walking distance of the center and the old town.
It is well suited for around 10 adults and still has extra space. Perfect in good weather. Kitchen is almost dining room and has easy access to the covered patio with barbecue and pool. The pictures are a bit too "shiny", clean and tidy. Nevertheless, the house is very smart and spacious."
- Is the translation in English. The comment about the weather was Swiss irony, as they had very bad weather sadly. And about the pictures, which we do have a lot in the house it is true, but this is the first time they have been commented upon, and I'm not sure the Google translation about them is quite accurate.
But thank you very much for your good review, especially considering how terrible the weather was for much of your week.
