Clean apartment, well equipped
This is a very well equipped apartment with luxury furnishing, comfy beds and nice bathroom. It is in the centre of Dartmouth, near the water which is great. We knew there was no outside space, but hadn't realised the house opposite was quite so close. Although this doesn't really matter, it did make the location feel a little cramped. It was great to have a car pass, but parking our second car was a nightmare! Can't be helped, but worth noting not to take two cars.
Lovely place to stay.
Great location, well kitted out apartment and parking permit make this a stress-free place to stay.
Practically Perfect in Every Way!
My partner and I stayed in this wonderful apartment from 2-6 May 2019. The location is perfect and just a 2 minute walk from the car park, seafront, restaurants and town centre. We booked via Home and Away and the process couldn’t have been simpler. Erica (the owner) kept in touch prior to our arrival and the instructions we received made our arrival nice and easy.
As soon as you walk into the apartment, you can instantly tell that it has been furnished to the highest standard, as all of the appliances and furnishings are top quality. There are two beautiful bedrooms to choose from; a double/twin at the rear of the apartment and a large master bedroom at the front. We opted for the master and was so glad we did, as the bed is possibly the most comfortable one I have slept in other than my own. The bathroom has the best power shower and the underfloor heating is wonderful in the morning when you get up. My only wish would be that there was a bath too, as after a long day, walking around I would have liked to have had a long soak, but this is just a personal preference. We ate in on a couple of evenings, the kitchen is fully equipped to cook a ‘proper’ meal and it was a nice touch have a dining room table to sit at.
There is so much to see and do around Dartmouth and a few days isn’t enough. I can recommend the Round Robin trip, which departs from the quay; we took the ferry to Totnes, the bus to Paignton and then the fabulous steam train back to Kingsweir. Coleton Fishacre and Greenway are both National Trust houses, which are definitely worth a visit if you enjoy that sort of thing, but get there early as they both get very busy on a weekend.
We cannot wait to return to Dartmouth and would definitely book Merchants Haven again as I couldn’t imagine staying anywhere else.
Comfortable, relaxing apartment in great location
We had a wonderful Easter break staying in Merchants Haven. We were totally spoilt by the weather - a true taste of summer, but still with spring flowers everywhere.
The apartment was great, so centrally located and close to the central car park, where we had no trouble finding a space at any time even on a bank holiday weekend.
The beds were super comfy, and we loved the shower!
And we were very grateful for all the basic consumables - soap, loo rolls, dishwasher tablets etc.
We had a slight problem getting the electric radiators to work on the first evening, but Erica and Gerry on the end of the phone helped us sort the problem out.
Overall an apartment deserving of a very high rating and we would certainly recommend it.
Lovely apartment in a great location.
The apartment is located on a very narrow street so you are unable to park but you can briefly stop outside to unload the boat. However a parking permit is provided with the accommodation for the Mayors car park which is literally a 2 min walk. We had no problems parking in it. There is also an M&S food store around the corner too.
Once you get through the main door don’t be put off by the tired looking communal hallway as once inside the apartment it’s just like the pictures.
The apartment is very well maintained with a luxury feel. White bedding and gorgeous white fluffy towels (which I’m actually going to purchase). There was a John Lewis faux fur throw on the exceptionally comfortable L shaped sofa which my daughters loved snuggling under. The crockery was Denby which was lovely but I was nervous with my children using them, in case they broke something, thankfully they didn’t.
We all loved the walk-in rainfall shower too.
The apartment has an excellent location in the town, you can walk everywhere. There are lots of bars and restaurants.
We are NationalTrust members and our first full day we decided on visiting Greenway which is Agatha Christie’s home. The parking has to be pre booked as spaces are limited so we decided to take the ferry across which made it more of an adventure and coming back walked 20 mins to the train station and took the steam train to Kingswear. We had dinner in the Steam Packet Inn which was lovely and very popular. Then got the ferry back to Dartmouth. The single train and ferry was £26 for a family of 4 which was pricey but we loved the experience.
Other places we visited were Coleton Fishacre, Overbecks and Compton Castle. We popped into Brixham, Paignton and Salcombe which are not too far away.
If you want a nice beach, Blackpool sands is nice although it’s a pebble beach.
Overall our stay in this apartment was superb. Dartmouth is definitely my favourite coastal resort, charming with no arcades, which we loved. The estuary with the ferries and the steam train adds to it.
Would definitely recommend a visit to Dartmouth & recommend this great apartment.
