Wonderful cottage with all the charm and personality of a historic New England home.
We absolutely loved the warmth and cozy feel of the renovated home with its historic charm. Breakfast on the outdoor patio and watching the sunset as the fire snaps and crackles in the fire pit were just a couple of the simple pleasures. Cool breezes coming in the upstairs bedroom windows each night along with the sounds of the tide made for relaxing evenings and lazy mornings. The cottage served as a great center point for sailing from Castine, hiking Blue Hill Mountain, touring through Acadia National Park, and taking the Belfast and Moosehead Railroad along the beautiful countryside as the leaves were beginning to turn. Cottage would also make a great family vacation spot with plenty of rooms, bunkbeds, and lofts for children to sleep in and enjoy.
Playful, peaceful paradise
This was our second time back and we've already booked for next year.
The property is right on the water and is very comfortable, perfect for kids and adults. There are also many activities in the area as well as good restaurants. We can't wait to come again next year!
We loved everything about it!
This house was both rustic and charming and had everything we needed. We traveled with our two children and our two moms and all three generations absolutely loved it.
They've truly turned this historic school into a gem. Heidi was so helpful with things to do and see and had the place well stocked so we were easily able to cook a few meals there, including one outside on the patio at sunset! While it was too chilly for us to swim, we spent hours walking the beach at low tide and collecting shells and sea glass. We were sad to leave and hope to make it back again some day!
Beautiful and perfect for a family!
We had a wonderful week at Heidi's house. The house is very clean and has literally everything you could ever need for a week. Having a room with toys and books for our kids was great. The fact that the house is beautiful inside was an extra perk as well. We have already booked to stay here in 2019 and are looking forward to it!!
Perfect summer getaway!
This adorable beach cottage far exceeded our expectations on our recent trip to Maine. The homeowners were very responsive and gave great recommendations and helpful tips for things to do (and eat!) in the area. We visited Acadia several times during our trip and the hour drive was easy to manage and the cottage was within a half hour of several other towns and attractions. It provided plenty of spaces for sleeping and lounging for our group of 8 and the kitchen was well stocked and suited all of our needs. The outdoor cooking area and grill were also great and well used!
By far though, the biggest hit with our group was the outdoor space and private beach area. The kids and adults enjoyed the firepit and hot tub after hours of paddle boarding, kayaking and swimming in the gorgeous bay. We had the entire cove to ourselves for examining tide pools, searching for shells and wildlife, and relaxing while watching the most gorgeous sunsets. This cottage offered us the perfect slice of Maine heaven on our first (but not last!) visit.
Beach front cottage
A work in progress ,shower upstairs small no soap dish in shower.front door hard to open and close.
We feature our listing as an antique restored school house, not a luxury retreat. It was built in 1776 and we have kept most of the original characteristics with added modern amenities. Other than our downstairs extra bedroom that is not complete(which we do not advertise as part of the rental area), our home is mostly at its complete point.
The door is difficult to open and that unfortunately has happened due to high usage of our house this summer, which will need be to be worked on before next summer.
I apologize that the upstairs shower is small, but the downstairs has a full bath tub with shower and we also have an outdoor shower with hot water. Thank you for the soap dish suggestion in the upstairs shower. It is good suggestion, that we have not had any other guest mention yet.
We have recently built an entire outdoor kitchen and patio and redone our front landscaping, which we feel are huge updates for our guests use.
