Irish Country Experience
Tudor Ville is a large house with flexible accommodation - we had an elderly family member stay with us for two days so the downstairs bedroom with ensuite facilities was a godsend. The kitchen could have been a little better equipped but did have most of the necessities.
The owners Rose and John are extremely friendly and helpful.
For us North Americans some of the beds were on the small side, but cosy - I can't remember when I last slept in a double bed with my wife.
Location is excellent, but maybe a little remote for some people. Two kilometres to the village and a 20 minute drive to Kilkenny. The house is surrounded by farmland and very quiet.
Overall we'd recommend this property highly.
Tudor Ville is a wonderful home in a beautiful country setting
Rose greeted us in town and we followed her down the country lane to find this grand home nestled into the farms of Callan. Rose was helpful and spent time showing us the home and was accommodating in answering questions. She even provided a few local contacts to enable us to enjoy the area all the more. The bedrooms and kitchen are large and bright and the 4 1/2 baths were a luxury for our family. The farm was a highlight for us as we walked the lanes and greatly enjoyed watching the cattle and sheep. The country setting is in a comfortable proximity to the city of Kilkenny, a quick and easy drive on N76. During our 2 weeks stay we enjoyed day trips including Bennettsbridge for fishing, hiking & Mosse’ Pottery; Rock of Cashel; Kilkenny with the castle and shopping. Kilkenny Crystal (were Irish crystal is handcrafted) and Rice Heritage Center are near by in the town of Callan. We are very grateful for Rose and John’s hospitably and generosity.
Beautiful home, great base for Kilkenny and Waterford areas
Tudorville was a great home and location for a base to tour in the Kilkenny and Waterford areas. Rose was a wonderful host, who met us in town and took us to the house, located at the family farm not far from Callan. Rose went over how everything worked in the house and had left us a nice welcome package and all the wood we could possibly burn in the fireplace. We enjoyed some nice evening fires in the living room. The house is new, well-appointed, and provides everything you need. Rose was a great host, providing suggestions about places to visit and always available by phone. We enjoyed visiting with her.
The location is close to Kilkenny, one of our favorite places. It is a beautiful town, with lots to do. We enjoyed Kilkenny Castle, St. Canice's, the Rothe House and Smithwick's Brewery. Waterford is also close, where we toured the Waterford Crystal factory--a must see. We also enjoyed the Irish National Heritage Park and the Dunbrody Famine Ship, in Ross. A bit longer drive, but not bad, was Glendalough, the Powerscourt House and Gardens, and the Powerscourt Waterfall--impressive.
We greatly enjoyed our stay at this house and in this area. Such a nice house to stay in and so many things to see and do in the area. We did not have time to do it all--so I guess we will have to come back. Thank you, Rose, for allowing us to enjoy your house and so much of Ireland! It was a wonderful trip!
