Wonderful Cozy Cottage!
We loved this adorable cottage! It is beautifully decorated, very clean and so comfortable. The private garden has a wonderful view as do all of the windows both up and downstairs. We thoroughly enjoyed cooking in the delightful kitchen and so appreciated a basket of goodies for breakfast that Ann left for us to enjoy. She obviously has the gift of hospitality and it was deeply appreciated!
We loved the local pub and found everyone to be very friendly! We also really enjoyed our circular walk through the valley in France Lynch.
As travelers from the US we did struggle with the very narrow roads in the area. If you are coming from the United Stares, we highly recommend renting an automatic car and putting in “Upper Lynch Rd” as the address in your GPS.
Thank you again Ann for allowing us this beautiful and unique get-away in the delightful Cotswolds!
We had a lovely brief stay at the Oxford Cottage. The cottage itself looks like it's from a magazine with spectacular views of the Cotswold valley below. The kitchen is well equipped and top of the line. Ann even left us croissants and eggs to start our morning.
Make sure to follow the directions Ann sends you because the old stone walled roads are narrow. To get out, we had to write Ann's directions in reverse. There is a charming pub just a few mins walk away and we were only about an hour away from Bath and Blenhelm Palace for day trips. Bring some groceries before you arrive and you are in for a relaxing time.
Thanks guys for your lovely review, sorry we didn’t get to meet you.
Great you mentioned the important of following the directions I send out to every booking which gives you the easy route, the SatNav is rubbish and takes everyone down the narrowest route, the Cotswolds have many narrow roads off the main routes as of course the original roads were only build for horse and carts.
If you come again there are at least three local supermarkets which will deliver directly to the front door if you order on line then you don’t have to worry about finding the nearest shops etc.
Hope you enjoy the rest the of the U.K. trip and beware If you plan to visit Devon or Cornwall as the roads are notoriously narrow too.
Enjoy but drive careful and slowly! :)
lovely neighborhood cottage
We stayed at Ann's place in France Lynch and just fell in love with the area and her sweet little cottage. The cottage is attached to Ann's home so she is very close if you need her. She went away a couple times during our stay but was always immediately responsive to our emails. She's a wonderful host and thinks of everything when you check in. She also had a basket of provisions for us upon arrival which was so sweet--eggs and croissants for breakfast the next morning.
We stayed at Oxford cottage for 17 days and just loved it. The cottage is adorable, tastefully decorated and comfortable. The kitchen was super easy to cook in and had everything we needed to prepare meals at home. There is a small dining room as well. We found the living room to be very comfy and loved the wood burning stove for colder evenings. We are a family of 5 with young children, so our two older girls (8 & 6)shared the full bed in one room and our youngest slept in a travel cot that Ann set up for us in the master. The sleeping arrangements were fine for us, but would be tight with older kids. If your kids are still small and can sleep together it works. The master mattress is on the firmer side if you are sensitive to that.
We thought the area was perfect for a family. There's a big park just a couple minutes walk up the road from the cottage which was invaluable. There is a small front patio and grass area which it was too chilly for us to enjoy in April, but the park is great for running the kids around. We also enjoyed the public footpaths around France Lynch. There are beautiful walks just outside your door. There is also a pub just up the street which we ate at a couple times. Lovely people and good food.
There's a grocery very close and you are about 15 min drive from Stroud which is a cute little hippie-ish town with a larger grocery and cute little shops and restaurants. We hit up the farmer's market there and really enjoyed the coffee shop next to the bookstore. Also be sure to hit the Lavender Cafe and Bakehouse for delicious breakfast or lunch. They have fresh sourdough from Salt house bakery every Tues and Sat and it's the best. I loved that this area of the Cotswolds is not very touristy at all. It really felt like we were living like the locals.
HIghly recommend a stay here if you are looking for a beautiful place to take a quiet break from life. We can't thank Ann enough for welcoming us into her beautiful cottage.
Very pleased you loved our cottage and the area, we are lucky to live there.
We definitely agree the cottage is best suited to 2 adults and 2 children and a very young infant or 4 adults, the VRBO site incorrectly advertised the cottage for 6 people, we were happy to accept your booking after we communicated by email but have since changed this on the VRBO so the cottage is not over cramped.
Sorry you found the bed too firm we had just turned the mattress over as the last guests complained it was too soft... oh dear :)
Enjoy the rest of your travels around the U.K.
Perfect, peaceful getaway. Cottage so pretty and well equipped. Couldn’t ask for more. Only had 3 nights here but didn’t want to leave. Ann was so welcoming and helpful. Would highly recommend this for a lovely, peaceful time away. Close to Cirencester which is lovely. Beautiful walks right on your doorstep.
True Cotswold charm with the thoughtful and thorough touches of homeowners, Ann and Pete
From the beginning conversations online about the impending trip to the day we sadly parted, our experience at Oxford Cottage was magical. It is such a quaint, well-cared-for respite in a quiet community. It is off the beaten path (and up very narrow and curvy one-ish lanes roads) from tourists, restaurants and shops, but a brisk two minute walk to the authentic warm inviting pub, The King’s Head makes you feel a part of English-dom right away. I especially loved the stone walled front room and tiny wood-burning stove, the kitchen with the lovely green oven and the high-vaulted wooden beamed ceilings of the master. Its open windows revealed birds singing from the rafters, views of rolling hills and locals walking their dogs. We spotted a gorgeous fox neighboring three noisy geese, met Scarlett and Coco, the two donkeys who took selfies with us, and also experienced a morning of unexpected snow—truly encapsulating this too-brief of a vacation from the U.S.A. into a charming real-life snow globe. I would do it all over again in a heartbeat, and I would take the sweet advice of Ann for everything Cotswold. Much gratitude this Thanksgiving~~
Me, my fiancé and our 3 month old daughter have just come back from a wonderful stay at Oxford cottage. The cottage is simply beautiful and had everything you could possibly need! Views from the cottage are stunning. We particularly enjoyed the very comfy bed and the log fire. Would recommend the local pub, the kings head which is less than a 5 minute walk. Amazing food and everyone we met there was super friendly. Easy access to some lovely walks around the cottage and surrounding areas. We used one of the many leaflets left in the cottage to choose what walks to do so that was very helpful! Would also recommend going to the farmers market in Stroud-a short drive away!
Was just perfect for our first family break away and we can’t wait to return!!
Thankyou to Ann who is a fantastic host
