Lovely gité in the beautiful French countryside
Very nice gité in a nice quiet village near hesdin. We all had a great time kayaking, and visiting local points of interest. The bikes in the shed where great for the kids
Beautiful property, but needs TLC
My husband and I with our 2 teenage daughters stayed here for a week. The house is spacious & full of character. The garden is enormous ! with a lovely stream running along the bottom. The village is small & beautiful, within easy reach of amenities & lots of sightseeing, as well as beaches. We very much enjoyed our stay but we think the property would benefit from some improvements & a little TLC. The property details listed a BBQ, we thought great, however it was very small, quite rusty and not in a usable state as previous guests (presumably) had not cleaned it and it was used as an ashtray!! The details also state garden furniture for guest use. However these were in such a dreadful state we had to clean them before we could use them. The lighting was poor in certain areas e.g. the children's bedrooms and in the kitchen. The amenities mention a television which is there, but has no sort of aerial connection to the satellite dish outside (which seems odd). There is also a washing machine, which we tried to use but that didn't work either. And the cooker hob has one faulty ring. Overall this property could be fantastic but seems to have been neglected regarding maintenance.
Thank you for taking the time to write your review. I am glad you enjoyed your holiday. I have passed your various observations on to the owners for their information. While there is a washing machine in the cottage, it is not listed as a facility for guests on the advert, as it is slightly temperamental and only the owners can make it work properly.
There is a 4 spot light in the kitchen which provides ample illumination - perhaps you did not find the switch. The childrens' bedroom is bedecked with fairy lights deliberately to create a magical atmosphere for young children. We will put another lamp in there for anyone who might want to read.
Charming gite in a beautiful setting
Our seventh stay in this region of France in the last 5 years & Dompierre is undoubtedly the most picturesque village so far. We had excellent weather & were able to take advantage of the huge garden while the kids splashed around in the stream that runs alongside. The garden was a real bonus and sitting out with the church, a chateau and the river as a backdrop was fab. The garden furniture itself could do with updating as it's literally on its last legs. Having bikes was great too although a pump would have been handy. Our youngest (9) easily managed a 9 mile ride and the roads were very quiet (recommend Dompierre to Le Boisle south of the river & back via Labroye and Rapechy to the north). Traffic is very light through the village and the cottage was very peaceful. It did take a while to find as the dierctions say the cottage is behind a telephone box (which has been removed). Still, the village is tiny so we didn't have to hunt too long.
The cottage itself was spacious for a family of 4 and packed with rustic charm. Sun streamed in and it was a pleasure eating at the kitchen table. The lounge was also comfy although we didn't need the fire. The kitchen itself is fairly basic but has everything you'd want to rustle up dinner. However, there is no freezer (something to consider if you're shopping on the way).
The property was clean but it seemed that we were the first visitors of the year perhaps as it didn't have that lived in feel and the downstairs bedroom did feel a little damp. Inevitable by a river in April?
The kids shared a room upstairs instead and they loved it (although the sockets seem to have been blocked and there were no lamps/lights in the room). All the rooms were comfortable and everyone slept well.
We couldn't get the washing machine to do a spin but it was warm enough to dry things outside and although we didn't visit to watch TV, it was packed away inside a cupboard and not connected to anything. Not a problem for us but might be for some. We love this area and recommend Le Touquet and St Valery on the coast. We have stayed in Montreuil before and is well worth a ramparts walk. We visted Arras this time and that was a lovely town (don't miss the WWI tunnels).Overall, this was a charming, comfortable & enjoyable property, ideal for the fine weather. A bit of updating with a few of the facilities and it would be perfect. No hesitation in recommending and would love to spend another sunny week there.
Thank you for taking the time to write such a comprehensive review. I am glad that you enjoyed your stay at the cottage. The owners have taken your comments on board and have now replaced the old garden furniture. There were a couple of pumps for the bike tyres, one in the bike shed and an electric one in the under stairs cupboard. It seems that the lights in the childrens bedroom had been unplugged. The owner has now taped the plug in place to stop it being unplugged in then future.
The directions sent out to guests have been updated to reflect the fact that the phonebox has been removed.
Good place to explore the beautiful area
Very large garden (mainly grass) supports playtime!
Lovely Family Gite
We really enjoyed staying in Dompierre which is a lovely village and well situated for exploring the WW1 battlefields and cemetries also the Somme Bay and nature reserves - there is lots to do and see. The Gite was cosy and well equipped and with a lovely big garden running down to a stream at the end. We had a super long weekend and would certainly recommend this Gite.
Beautiful, relaxing gite. Great for all the family.
We had a brilliant holiday. Shuna was absolutely brilliant at answering any of our queries before the holiday. Once there, we were not disappointed. The gite itself is very comfortable and relaxing with everything we needed. Our five year old son loved sitting with us by the stream watching for water rats and then running around the large garden having water fights. It's a great base for visiting the various medieval towns nearby as well as lots of lovely beaches. Would definitely recommend this gite to friends and family.
