Terrible customer service
we stayed t this property for three nights in October. On arrival the living room smelt damp when we entered due to the basement / dining room which we never used as it was dark, damp and smelt. Also the fridge in the kitchen was broken. Despite our initial reactions we made the most of our time away and spent most of it out of the house exploring Blenheim Palace, Bicester Village and the local pubs.
The worst came after we arrived home and were only refunded part of our deposit due to 'unauthorised use of additional towels'. We had used a few additional towels from the family bathroom airing cupboard - which wasn't locked - and because of this have been penalised some of our deposit. Despite our numerous efforts to sort this with the owner he has refused to refund our whole deposit and is now unreachable. There was no where it stated we couldn't use other towels and as the cupboard wasn't locked we were not to know these were out of bounds. I think the lack of understanding from the owner and his lack of communication is terrible and for this reason I would not recommend staying in this property.
Full of character but a haven of cobwebs and spiders
On arrival not a very attractive property inside full of character and charm and a great location for Blenheim Horse Trials. Unfortunately that's the only good news. The cream sofa in the lounge was to say the least very dirty as where all the cushions on the leather sofa. The fridge was missing more than one shelf and the door compartment was broken making it insufficient for keeping a reasonable amount of food in. The main bathroom had a few issues including hair in the bath from the previous occupants the toilet handle was loose and the towel holder by the sink was missing. The controls on the shower came off when you turned it on. The dining room was damp and smelly therefore unusable. The whole house had cobwebs and spiders in abundance and they had clearly been there for a considerable time. All in all somewhere we not would recommend.
Lovely relaxing holiday with the family in a very quaint cottage with oodles of history. Ideally situated in Woodstock, with plentiful restaurants and pubs that are dog friendly.
Centrally located for Oxford and The Cotswolds.
Not so nice as presented on the Website
I believe the house used to be a wonderful holiday apartment. I liked the historic impression of the house at the first glimpse. I do not care about steep steps, uneven floors and bent walls. I like vintage furniture. I am willed to pay an appropriate amount of money for a nice location while being on holiday. The house which was so well presented on the homepage was on arrival a disappointment. The house itself needs renovation and reparation, some of the furniture and the equipment needs replacement. I want to mention some examples: The chair in the first floor bathroom, the seat had a big hole covered with a pillow, the handle of the second front door did not work, tap ware in both bathrooms were loose, the leather stools in the living room had holes and spread the filling everywhere....
In addition to the maintenance of the house the cleanliness was not satisfying at all. With dust and spider webs all around it appeared we were the first group to rent the house after a winter closure without cleaning before our arrival. We found a used comb with hair in a drawer, dried French fries on the windowsill, dirty sponges and kitchen cloth beneath the sink, crumbs with the cutlery, the fireplace was full of ashes and behind the sofa the last vacuum cleaning seemed to be a long time ago...
We booked the house in March arriving with an outside temperature of 6 centigrade, inside 14 centigrade without the heating turned on. It took two days to heat the house to 20 centigrade. There are no doors between the floors, so all the warmth went up or through the one pane glass in most of the rooms or through the hole in the pane in the window of the kitchen.
The location of the house within Woodstock close to public transport and the palace is very convenient - unless you care for noise from the main through road from Oxford to Chipping Norton with HGVs and all buses.
The contact with the landlord via email was always friendly. As we did not manage to turn on the oven in the kitchen the provided contact person in Woodstock helped immediately.
I have repeatedly been renting holiday homes in Britain during the last years. This was the worst relation in between presentation on the website and the real state of the home. Value for money was not ok.
I am very disappointed to find that my cleaning team has let me down. Needless to say, the small maintenance issues will be rectified immediately, now I know about them. Secondly, having dirty cloths and poor cleaning is unacceptable. I have passed on your comments to my cleaning team, who are on a written warning and I will be inspecting their work in the future.
