We were looking for a place to stay over our "winter break" and found this gem of a spot. The property itself is just an open lot overlooking a BEAUTIFUL salt marsh. We are from the Gulf Coast of Florida so it was a completely different landscape than what we're used to, the marsh is expansive and the distant tree lines are gorgeous with the sunshine!
Pros:
- Full Hook Ups: Power, Sewer & Water
- The site itself is just an empty lot with hook ups close to the marsh. Easy to locate and google maps directed us here with no problem
- VERY quiet area, some shooting on neighboring properties from time to time, but nothing we aren't used to.
- Close to boat ramp / seafood "store" of Bennett's Point
- Dirt Road - easy to access, nicely compacted for trailer use, almost no traffic when we were there and easy to walk on for a daily stroll with the dog
- The stars were A-MAZ-ING!
Cons:
- Very yucky well water. I'm thankful we brought lots of bottled water. Ended up making coffee off the bottled water by the end of the trip so we weren't drinking "marsh coffee". Worked fine for showers, dishes, etc but lots of sulfur smell and tasted almost a little salty (although I think that was mainly the sulfur). We even had a hose RV water filter (brand new) and I'm not sure it made much of a difference...
- Off the beaten path - this is a pro and con as we wanted to visit places like Savannah, Beaufort and other neighboring cities (but didn't want to pay their prices). Our daily drives were over an hour to get to where we wanted to go, but the view and quiet atmosphere were definitely worth the extra 30 min drive off the main road
- LOTS.OF.BUGS!!! Be prepared with bug spray ( no see ums, gnats and mosquitos even in the end of Dec!)
- Old / Defunct campers on neighboring lots that take away from the beauty of the rest of the property.
- Tidal shifts can bring marsh water over the main road at times.
Overall I'd give the property a 4 star rating for no other reason than it was a little farther off the beaten path than expected and the well water was really rough. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience and would definitely stay again! If you're looking for a quite place to camp in a wooded / marshy area this is certainly the right place to come!
