New Years Eve celebration
The house is incredible! We had anticipated a freezing little cottage in the middle of the winter but were pleasantly surprised by the comfort of the house. The house was warm and relaxing in front of the log burner was lovely. Our host welcomed us when we arrived and after showing us around, left us to enjoy our stay. The location was perfect, nestled between a few farm cottages and surrounded by gorgeously peaceful countryside. If you're looking for a quiet retreat, this is ideal! Couldn't have asked for anything more.
Thank you for your review. We are delighted that you enjoyed your New Year’s break and hope you will come back again.
Lovely relaxing environment with old English charm.
Lovely quite location, with real charm. Had everything we needed and had a nice relaxing time in front of the log burner in the evenings. Just a same the weather was so bad we could enjoy the lovely garden.
Thank you, sorry we couldn’t arrange the weather, but glad the log burner kept you warm.
A very old but spotlessly clean with mod cons Farmhouse. Large rooms. Everything works. Very helpful Richard on hand next door.
Comfortable, characterful 16th century farmhouse
My husband and I, my parents and my 3 children (9, 7 and 3) had a wonderful 3 night stay at Great Quebb Farm.
The farmhouse itself is full of character, from the heavy studded front door to the wonderfully uneven carved staircase. The bedrooms are huge, with comfortable beds and very effective radiators. An extra bed was put up at no extra charge to accommodate our last minute guest. There was plenty of hot water for all 7 of us, and 3 toilets (1 ensuite). We used the wood burner in the cosy living room, with access to Mr Hitchen’s wood store for refills as necessary.
Mr Hitchen, who lives in the adjoining house, was the perfect host - he met us, showed us round and made us welcome (inviting us to make use of his beautiful garden), but then disappeared and was completely unobtrusive. He did appear in the middle of a thunderstorm to make sure we were warm enough, and also left us a lovely welcome tray with tea, chocolate biscuits and home grown apples.
We were particularly impressed with the kitchen, which was well equipped and enabled us to cater for the 7 of us easily for the whole of our stay (we didn’t eat out, although I gather The Tram pub at local Eardisley is fantastic for food).
We enjoyed the garden, and strolling round the local farm to see the calves and cows. On our last day we attended the wonderfully English Eardisley Show, which we all enjoyed despite the cold bank holiday weather!
My parents took the children into Hay to explore the bookshops, which is only 7 miles away, and we all spent an afternoon exploring pretty Kington then playing on the very well-equipped playground there, and paddling in the River Arrow.
I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this beautiful, characterful and quirky farmhouse to anyone, and look forward to visiting again next year.
Thank you for your lovely description, it is hard to show the character of the house in photographs, so reviews are really helpful, we do hope you will be back next year. Celia Foote and Richard Hichens.
Not What It Seemed...
When is a quiet stay in the country , not a quiet stay in the country ! .When it is here....What appears to be a detached country cottage is infact a terraced house in so much as it is occupied on either side.Wafer thin walls with noise eminating from both sides was upsetting for myself inparticular as I had booked the property on behalf of our party and felt I had let the side down.
Pan to the right of the property out of sight of this wide angle front shot and a building site is in progress. "No mention of that in the description". Heavy machinery and hammering from 8.00am including the Sunday We were there meant we were glad to leave...
The only place I have stayed in many years where we felt deceived by the photo's and description of a property.
Fabulous Bank Holiday Weekend in Eardisley
We had a truly wonderful stay at Great Quebb. The property fitted our requirements perfectly and was a great base for visiting family in the area.
