Nice Weekend Getaway
A group of 16 of us stayed for a weekend to go on a wine tour in the area. Overall we had a nice stay. The house is big enough for everyone, but could use a few updates. We knew about the no wifi and limited cell service so we were prepared for it and it was nice to have everyone's full attention.
- Nice big hot tub
- Beds for everyone
- Lots of seating for everyone to eat together
- Great view from the back porch
- Basic supplies were there for us (paper towel, soap, shampoo, towels, coffee filters, spices etc)
- No dishwasher (we got paper plates and plastic silverware because we didn't want to hand wash dishes when making food for 16)
- The leather is flaking off the couches in the living room
- Master bedroom doesn't have blinds and has an opening to the main room so its a bit hard to sleep in there
- Only 1 shower in the main house
Beautiful location on Lake Huron!
Nice place, but it needs a deep cleaning. Tons of bug guts on the ceilings, dirty ceiling fans (with lots of dead bugs in the glass globes), dirty walls, dog hair and scratch marks from a dog. Both screens on the sliding glass doors were broken. A ladder to one of the bunks was broken. I felt bad because one of the bunks didn't have a comforter, so one of our ladies spent the night with only a sheet to keep her warm. I wasn't told until the next day, so I felt horrible. Someone else had a pillow without a pillow case on it (no one wants to use that). When we arrived there was no power. I realize that is something out of the property managers control, but when I said I couldn't imagine 18 ladies spending a weekend without working toilets or running water and no way to prepare the food we brought, the only comment was that DTE was working on it. I asked him to give me a call while we were in Lexington eating supper (because cell phone service/wifi was terrible at the house). I just wanted to get information about how we were going to get by if we had to go the whole weekend without power. He never replied and wouldn't take my calls. Power did come back on around 7:30 p.m. but we lost it two more times during the weekend for several hours. We had a good time as a group, enjoyed the hot tub and paddle boards/kayaks, and the view of the lake was amazing. I don't think we would even rent this place again because we thought the place should have been a lot cleaner and because of the poor communication with the property manager. Could be a knock out property if a little more effort was put into deep cleaning, better quality mattresses, and nicer living room furniture. I don't like giving reviews that aren't positive, but future renters have a right to know about the issues we had with our stay.
It is unfortunate that you were out of power multiple times this past weekend. Your frequent calls were noted and responded too when they came through, however our answer regarding DTE our electric company was the only truthful answer we could give, as it was a regional outage due to downed powerlines. There was nothing we could do except call DTE for updates. Luckily power was restored same day. I absolutely would not want 18 women without water and electricity for a weekend, however when DTE gave reports that power should be restored within hours, the prudent thing to do was to wait it out versus try to find other accommodations which would have had to been outside of the 20 mile outage area. So I appreciate that wanted to demand a solution for you and your guest, however sometimes the only solution is to wait out the storm. In addition, I personally did the 55 point inspection and walkthrough prior to your arrival on the 13th. The screen door was in working order on the morning of the 13th but was out of the track on your depature. I spoke with the cleaning ladies regarding the bunk bed ladder, they must use the ladders to make the top bunks. All of the ladders were in working order on the 12th prior to your arrival. The bunk room is often used by adult guests, however these are bunk beds and might not be suited for "all" adults. This is also true of bunk bed mattresses.....although the bunk beds and all of the mattresses were new in 2016. I will ask the cleaning crew to do the ceiling fans and light globes......this is something that is very difficult to tackle between guests but surely can be addressed this week. Additional comforters and sheets are in the closet next to the bunk room and in the linen closet, When we did the walk through........all beds, including bunks had comforters.........this I am sure of because I called the cleaning crew as there was one mis-matched comforter, and called to ask them why. The guests prior to you had spilled redpop or Koolaid on the comforter so cleaning crew took the comforter home to get the stain out. Lastly we did reply to each message as we got it.......however due to your cell service, some of the messages did not come through until after you had departed on Sunday. Hopefully your next vacation stay will not include a regional power outage, I am sure it will make all more enjoyable.
We had a fantastic time with our kids. The beach was a lot of fun with provided kayaks and paddle board.
We enjoyed coffee on the deck and dips in the hot tub. There is no fire pit which surprised us...but we made do. Being without WiFi has its shortcomings and positives...but overall this is a fantastic place for a family getaway.
This property has the most stunning view!
A ton of space
No privacy in the downstairs bedroom. The dinning area with a large table sits right outside the downstairs bedroom. The downstairs bedroom has French doors (which were nice) but no coverings over them so anyone at the table in the dinning room could see right in. Also in that same bedroom there is a window leading to the dinning room with blinds but no glass, so not only could you see right into the room but you could hear everything going on in the living room. Which made sleeping rough, especially for my toddler.
-Not child friendly- I didn't realize it until our trip but there is only rope going around the back deck. So we could not take our little kids out there without fear of them falling through (it would be a steep fall). Also the stairs going down to the beach are very dangerous for little kids as they can fall.
-Limited parking- we had to play musical cars a lot because there isn't a great deal of parking but they do give the garage to park in which helped some.
-They do provide 3 kayaks and one SUP but one kayak was missing a seat and one was cracked so really there was only 1 kayak and 1 SUP. They are also only 8ft kayaks rated to 225 pounds. These are designed for children not adults. ( On a side note, at the time of our rental the property was listed with 4 kayaks and 2 SUPs but when we arrived one of each was missing and 2 were damaged and they didn't let us know ahead of time.)
-Do to high lake levels the beach fire pit was underwater at the time of our trip. This wasn't really a problem as its out of their control but they could have informed us ahead of time considering we specifically asked if there was one before booking the trip.
-The pool was great but by the end of the trip it was so nasty we couldn't use it. They didn't leave any instruction on adding chemicals and there was no way to vacuum it out. We did manage to find a skimmer and we cleaned the filters on a daily basis with the hose but it wasn't enough to keep the water from greening by the end of the week. The property manager said he would be by to treat it periodically but we never saw him.
-They had a cornhole game set up for us to use but the game was missing bags. The property manager told us he would bring more by but never did. We talked to him day one to voice all of our concerns.
The vacation was awesome, the property was just good. Worth it.
Excellent time in Michigan
Hi Julie and Josh. Sorry responding so late. We had an excellent time. The lake is absolutely beautiful. For the money I think this was an excellent choice for us. Who knew kayaking was so much fun. The hot tub was excellent relaxation before hitting the sack. The housing was fine though my wife thought the cottage was a little small. Can't do anything about that. We did have a couple of small issues that really didn't affect the outcome of the great time we had. The stairs going down to the beach was a little over grown with ruffage so we had to clean that up a up some. We kind of felt that it could be cut back away from the stairs and at the bottom of the stairs.
My family stayed in the cottage and we used the fridge to keep our drinks cold so we would not have to use a lot of ice. The problem there was it froze up most of our drinks. We had to do a little thawing out.
We knew going in that there was only 2 showers, that was a little troublesome when we were trying to get 14 adults ready to go out. We managed OK though and again we knew going in.
All that being said we had a wonderful time. It was great being able to get our whole family together for a fantastic vacation. And we didn't kill each other.
Thank you very much and I would definitely go back to your place.
