Decent property, horrible rental management
So let me start with before we arrived. We have two small dogs and I noticed that the policy was that it was up to owner's decision for pets. They only had a brief, one sentence line with 2 dogs are welcome. Being that I travel a bit, I wanted to clarify that there was no breed or weight limitations. I emailed the company and asked for clarification. Instead, they literally copied and pasted the same thing their website had, but without the hyperlinks actually being functional. When I replied that I did not believe this was a professional response, I was able to get a response in a very terse and brief manner. We arrived at the property around 4:10 in the afternoon. I had checked that we had an access code earlier in the morning, but when we arrived, the access code was now gone. I spent 15 minutes trying to get a new code and finally reached someone who could help. After entering the home, we found 2 dead cockroaches in the kitchen and bathroom. After wife and I cleaned (seeing that it was pretty unsanitary from the roaches) we did have a great time with the beach access, pool, and spa. When it came time to leave, our reservation told us to leave by 11:00 that morning and enter the door code given to indicate we have left. We packed that morning and at 10:00 spent 15 minutes by the pool. When we came up at 10:15 to get our luggage to leave, the door was locked and the code no longer worked. I spent another 15 minutes on the phone arguing with someone who claimed that since we didn't pay for a "late checkout" and that they only rent until 10, that there was nothing they could do. I threatened to call the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, seeing that our property had been illegally seized, and she relented and opened the door, except she had to do it twice because she apparently didn't know how to do it correctly. She got it right, most likely from trial and error. Overall, I would never recommend your company and will never use your services again. Was not even close to worth the price that we paid and practically ruining our vacation from the start and end points.
Perfect property for family vacation!
This was our first venture onto St. George Island, and did not know what to expect. Island Charm was a real hit with the entire family. We had ages 7 through 77. Nice BIG living room and kitchen with two tables and a bar. Many seats! Six of us paired off for games at the big dining table, and 2 or 3 played cards at the other table. All munchies could be left out on the huge bar for 'instant access', plus it had bar stools around it.
Bedrooms were very comfortable, especially the nice firm mattresses. Plenty of TV's so everyone could watch their favorite programs. We had two bathrooms which worked out well. I got excellent wi-fi service and used my laptop multiple times a day for business and personal emails.
The very large front deck made for a nice place to sit in the evenings to view the ocean. This house sits right across from an empty lot, thus allowing for a perfectly clear unobstructed view of the ocean and beach.
To get to the beach, it was just a very short walk across the small roadway to the boardwalk to the beach. We felt secure and comfortable allowing the younger children walk alone over to play on the sandy beach.
The pool was smallish, but the water was crystal clear, clean and alluring. Everyone had several chances for a dip in the pool. The hot tub was VERY popular and had many visits by all!
The only negative thing to report was the weather and ocean. This was not the fault of the booking agency or owner of the property because recent Hurricane winds made the ocean too dangerous and choppy to swim in, and the wind gusts shot hot sand at our bodies like small pellets. We didn't spend much time on the beach but we still enjoyed it anyway, just sitting under our awning tent and enjoying the ocean smell and air. Even the kids did not complain about not being able to get in the water the entire week. They had many other things to do like the swimming pool, hot tub, and riding the golf cart all over the island with the adults. We were told the bad weather was very abnormal for this time of year.
Food on the island was just a tad more expensive than we prepared for, but still . . . even a nice seafood dinner was not that much higher than going to Red Lobster. The Black Marlin was a favorite, and the Subway shop had standard prices that we expected. The same with PJ's Sub and Pizza shop.
This was a great property for us and we were pleased. Enough so, everyone talked about a return visit next year.
It had a very nice view.
Very nice place to stay. Liked being close to the beach.
Thanks, Deborah. Glad you enjoyed your stay. Looking forward to earning that 5th star next time. Hope to see you soon!
Island Charm - 3 Day Get Away
We spent 3 great days at the Island Charm house. The house was clean, bright, and furnished with everything you need. With two King beds then the sets of bunks and a pull out couch, its the ideal place for two couples with kids, or like our case bring the Grand Parents. There is a clear view of the ocean from every front window and the walkway over to the beach is only a few feet down the street. You can spend a lot more for a house that sits right on the beach, but if want to stay at the beach and have a lot of extra money for food, beach rentals, and other fun vacation stuff then stay at the Island Charm.
What a wonderful review, Chris! You've really hit on one of the great advantages of this house, and that combination of value and location is hard to beat.
Super happy to hear you enjoyed yourselves, appreciate the review, and really look forward to hosting you again!
