Great location, well-appointed house especially w.r.t. children's toys and kitchenware.
It was so quiet in the January evenings that it was almost eerie. I could hear the ocean from the upstairs master bedroom and see it from several rooms in the house. The house is spacious. The supply of toys and children's books and puzzles was appreciated. Although the house is in a fairly isolated area as far as shops and restaurants are concerned (the one restaurant in the immediate vicinity was closed for the winter), it's not far to a grocery store, drugstore, and an excellent restaurant. I liked this place.
Lovely stay in a great house
Beautiful renovation of an old home in an ideal location at Two Lights! The house is clean, comfortable, and delightful. Owners are responsive and all the basics are ready for your stay there. Kitchen is well equipped. It is as pretty as pictured! Unfortunately the lobster shack across the street closed a week earlier in Oct than they had told me on the phone. Great fall drives and coastal walks throughout the area. Fun places to eat in South Portland and Portland.
Exactly as you see on the website
We stayed at the house this past week. The pictures are "true". House was very clean and owner responsive when a question was asked. The tv had an issue on Wednesday night and she came the next day to correct the problem. We arrived very late, I think she would have come that night if not so late. She has lots of items (coffee, detergents, shampoo, etc) available for your convenience so you don't overpack like I did. One bedroom is downstairs, so if you are traveling with another couple, you can have your own space. You can view the sunrise from inside the house's picture windows. We traveled so much our time at the house was mininal but served as a great central location to visit different areas of the state with an easy return. Don't have a reutrn planned but if we ever do, I would look at the availability here first.
Thanks so much for your kind review and for your stat, Donna! We’d be happy to have you back anytime.
Cozey, homey beach house with all the amenities of home
We loved staying in this darling house, which was cozey yet up to date with modern appliances and the comforts of home. There was plenty of room to be together or find a little solitude. Cooking was easy and fun with everything we needed. Both walking to the shore or across the street to The Lobster Shack took about 30 seconds. We ate at some great upscale restaurants about five minutes from the house. The owner was super friendly and helpful. Everything was perfect—we couldn’t have asked for more!
One Word - AMAZING
Lets go over the standard questions that you look for when you rent a place.
Did the house match up to what the listing showed and talked about? Yes, and then some.
Was it clean? Very clean.
Was the owner easy to communicate with? Could not have been better. Every time we needed to reach out to the owners they were quick to respond and went above and beyond making sure all our needs where met (not to mention meeting our needs on things that we did not even know we need answers to)
Does the house have all of the necessities for bedding and cooking? Yes. The owners have thought a lot about what a potential renter might need. Multiple clean beach towels, bath towels, wash rages, clean sheets, pillows, a wonderful double thick air mattress (if you need extra space), pots, pans, silverware, glasses, and spices. There was also ample cleaning supplies to make sure our extended stay kept the house clean and refreshed.
Would you rent this house again? Yes, in a heartbeat.
Now on to all of the extras. Giving this review does not give it justice nor can I express really how fantastic this location is. To start with you are two houses down from the ocean. You get to hear the ocean when you go to sleep. Since the house is on a point, when you cross the street and go beyond the restaurant on the other side you get to view the ocean. At one place you have a sandy beach and to the east of that just steps away you have a rock area that you can walk on and watch the waves crash into the lower rocks below. Just a magical time listening to and watching the ocean be alive. The lighthouse is just to the west of this area and makes for a most wonderful background for picture taking. The house is located in an area that gives you great access to all that Portland and the surrounding area has to offer, but is still in a great location that you have the piece one seeks for when vacationing.
In short we arrived happy to be there and left better than when we got there, rejuvenated. This is an excellent home to rent.
Thank you Whitney!
Great location and great house with well stocked kitchen :)
We had a great vacation staying here. While we didn’t have any young children with us, the house would be very friendly to that age group. The house was built in 1912 (we learned from the binder in the house) and it’s beautifully updated and comfortable. The Apple TV made watching news back home (during hurricane Florence) very easy and boy were we glad to not be in rainy NC! While we only cooked one dinner there, the kitchen was very well stocked with equipment and condiments in the fridge. We did a different day trip each day: Portland, Freeport & South Freeport, Belfast, Rockland, Camden, Wiscasset, Boothbay Harbor, and Falmouth. The view from Camden Hills state park is the best view in Maine! Lucky Catch Cruise was the highlight of our trip: a 90 minute ride in Casco bay to visit 8 lobster traps and Portland Headlight. We were even able to buy 6 live lobsters for $40 which we took out our friends’ house for a fantastic lobster roast! I would also highly recommend the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens - such a beautiful place!
