A true gem !
We spent a lovely week here with our daughter and grandchildren. The house is an architectural gem and is very well appointed. The views and proximity to the water are stunning. Paula was invaluable in making our vacation a great success – providing advance advice about excursions and detailed information about grocery provisioning. We felt so welcomed. All of us agreed it was one of our most amazing family vacations ever, much in part to the fabulous accommodations.
Lisa, we were so happy to see you and your family thoroughly enjoy your time at our casa (and in Loreto). Please come back!
Perfect in every way!
We (3 couples) stayed in Paula & Shaw's fabulous 3-bedroom, 2.5 bath waterfront home last week. The house was beautiful and so comfortable inside and out. The kitchen/refrigerator was stocked more than any place I've ever stayed. That was really an amazing, welcoming and kind thing to do!
Paula has created incredibly helpful reference material to assist you in discovering Loreto. But in addition, they are more than willing to assist you in booking activities, like boat trips, whale watching, birding, etc.
The views are lovely and ever-changing & the sunrises amazing.
The walk into town is about 20-25 minutes. We enjoyed taking the beach route during the day which included a wet (knee-high) trek across the small river as the tide was going out.
Don't miss a lunch or early dinner (or 2 in our case) at La Picazon. The huge, very good Margaritas and best-ever coconut shrimp make the dusty bumpy drive for about 5 miles north of town worth it.
Paula & Shaw made this such an easy & relaxing stay. We will be back to enjoy their kind hospitality and Loreto again! Oh, last but not least we all fell in love with their sweet, adorable dog, Coco.
Beautiful house in a great location
This house was perfect for our group. It's well maintained, has everything you would need and the host are super nice people. We will be going back.
We look forward to hosting you in Loreto again soon!
Well appointed home in beautiful setting
We very much enjoyed our week here in January. The house is spacious and well furnished and equipped. The large beds were good and firm, the kitchen was well stocked with equipment and basics, plus some -- spices, oils, vinegars, food to get us started (milk, juice, coffee, bread, etc.). There are several ways to enjoy the out of doors and the view. The first level pool patio is partially covered and the pool is both sunny and shaded during the course of the day. Upstairs the palapa covered patio has a large gas firepit with lava rocks that throw off heat if needed and another slightly higher deck with a slatted cover for partial shade provides an unencumbered view east, south and partially west (including some sunset). Whatever the weather we were able to find a nice outdoors space where we could enjoy or escape the sun, shade or breeze. The pool was well-heated and clean; we swam laps every day.
The beach was beautiful and the sea bird life amazing to watch. We watched several kayakers on the calm morning waters right out front of the house. Looked like fun!
The jeep for running into town was perfect. Easy to use and park. Restaurants we enjoyed: Mi Loreto, Mezzaluna, Los Mantilles, El Rey del Taco (we ordered the fish tacos, but you can also try tripe).
We took a tour of San Javier Mission in the mountains. The drive is beautiful. If you go on a guided tour, it really makes a difference to have a guide who knows about the history and flora of the area. Otherwise do a self-tour via taxi or rental car for a nice trip out of town, but read up on it beforehand because there is not much information available on site. The day trip to Coronado Island was wonderful. It's good to choose a day without too much wind and plenty of sun (at least in the winter months). Dolphins, seals, osprey were seen en route and the snorkeling from the beach was good. Wetsuit, provided by the tour companies, is essential in January. Hiking the marked trails on the island is also rewarding so bring some good walking shoes. A highlight of our week was a long morning fresh water birdwatching with Tom Haglund. He was extremely knowledgable and affable. We are not experts and had our own binoculars but he loaned us better ones.
Paula prepared several excellent documents with all the information we needed about the house, its contents, the jeep, activities, restaurants and the area, including a very good map of all the places she cites.
Thanks for your detailed review Jolanne! We're so pleased your group fully appreciated the amenities and design of the casa, and really went the distance in exploring the best of Loreto. It's truly rewarding to host guests like you! Please come back soon.
The house was great and exceeded expectations, and was enhanced greatly by Shaw
Four of us old friends (James Caldwell HS class of '71) spent a week at the house. Shaw greeted us there and gave a thorough walk through the house, answering any questions we had. He balanced unobtrusiveness with helpfulness the whole week, and we all agreed that Shaw was the best VRBO host we had ever experienced. Anyway, the house is comfortable and well furnished, as is the kitchen. Every morning we would have coffee on the back porch and watch the pelicans and other birds dive for their breakfast. The local restaurants were great as was our day of fishing which Shaw helped on greatly. The Jeep was a handy addition and we used it daily...just watch out the the stop (ALTO) signs! All in all a great time, including visiting a mission, Taber Canyon, and the quaint local town. We even attended a local soccer game. The town is accommodating, peaceful, and friendly.
Thanks for being such awesome guests. We hope you come again!
Shaw & Paula
Beautiful and comfortable house. We didn't want to leave!
Paula and Shaw were a delight to work with! Very accommodating and everything was in great shape. Shaw greeted me at the house and did a walk through explaining everything. He was always nearby and would answer all of our questions. We had 5 people in our group, one couple and 3 others. The bedroom set up was great for us. I loved falling asleep with the doors wide open. Sea breeze and the sound of waves all night. We loved having cocktails around the gas firepit. So cool! Paula's info she sent to us before the trip came in handy every day. She recommended using Sea and Land Tours for our extra curricular activities. I signed up for a snorkeling day out to Isla Coronado. Very fun!! We took a mountain tour to see the San Javier mission. Very interesting! But my favorite was the Glass Bottom boat day. You gotta do it! I would stay in this house again! Oh, I forget to mention that is was fun to ride around town in the jeep!
Chris, you and your gang are the perfect guests. Please come back!
