The perfect place to unplug unwind and connect with what matters.
The apartment was perfect. Just as advertised. Well appointed with everything you need. The location is idyllic. Completely peaceful. Elizabeth is a wonderful host. Will definitely come back to see the island in different seasons!
Beautiful island, friendly islanders, perfect acccommodations.
For three months James and Elizabeth took care of us like family. They made sure we had everything we needed, could find our way around the island, and even delivered our mail and set up a bridge game!! The accommodations are very comfortable with everything you need to live, enjoy the views of Penobscot Bay, and be your base for island touring. We enjoyed morning sunrises and watching the ever changing conditions of the water from the living room windows. From the bedroom & kitchen windows we watched the sun set and observed whitetail deer feeding and resting. The bathroom window looks out over Charlotte’s Cove. The views of Penobscot Bay with dozens of islands is spectacular. We often saw Bald eagles, loons, and harbor seals. We walked all of the island trails across Conservation Lands and along the various oceanfront coves, usually seeing more deer than people. The views are incredible and varied. The island residents welcomed us. We walked most of the roads on the island and appreciated how all drivers moved to the other side of the road to give us safe walking space. EVERYONE waves whether driving or walking! We had lunch with locals at the Community Center and two island markets, getting to know yearlong residents. Once we went to the island clinic for a minor injury and were promptly treated very well. We look forward to returning in warm weather to kayak the shoreline and renew our friendship with James and Elizabeth and other islanders.
Elizabeth and Jim are wonderful hosts, and offer a beautiful property for a relaxing vacation getaway. The apartment is fully appointed offering all you could possibly need for a comfortable stay. Out of the large living room picture window you can view the ocean, as well as eagles perching in the trees on the shoreline. The island beaches and coves are fun to explore. I found many pieces of gorgeous seaglass and beautiful shells. I would highly recommend staying here to feel like you've had a real vacation.
A true gem!!
This place was fantastic!! The apartment had everything you could possibly want or need. It was like you were in a model home. The view along with the cove just down the drive was gorgeous! James and Elizabeth were a couple of sweeties! James was quite hilarious in his own quiet, unassuming way.
The minimum stay here is 3 days but trust me......you will wish that you booked it for more!! Thank you so much, James and Elizabeth!
Our Favorite Rental Home
The Inchcliffe apartment could not have been a more perfect place to spend a long weekend with best friends. We spent our time lounging on a raft in the cove, reading books, listening to good music, searching for seaglass, cooking lobster and pot pies straight from the island, building fires, watching the sun rise from the yard and chasing the sunsets every evening. The owners are incredibly nice and accommodating. They provided us with everything we could have needed, and more. The apartment itself was perfect in size and very comfortable for three people. We cannot wait for the next chance to go back!! Thank you, Elizabeth and Jim, for allowing us to stay on your property. We had such a wonderful time!
Peaceful spot with outstanding view at a fully stocked unit. Like staying at a friend’s place!
This is a lovely modern apartment above a garage in a quiet and peaceful setting. The view is amazing, photos just don’t do it justice. The unit was spotless! Everything you could possibly need for a comfortable stay is in the unit (think things like a colander, olive oil, laundry soap, wine glasses & ice cream bowls. And everything in between). I forgot shampoo, and there were little trial sized ones. Simply a perfect vacation spot with a lot of thoughtful touches. Feels like staying at a friend’s place.
Some things to keep in mind, more about the island than the unit. Islesboro is... remote. There are very limited eating out options, especially for special dietary needs. Pack food for cooking (which is easy to do in the apartment), drinks, etc. I only went to 1 of the markets, it was well stocked but pricey as would be expected on an island. You can get most of what you need but it’s an extra few steps if you decide you don’t want to cook after a lazy day at the beach. Things close early and that’s all part of the charm, as long as you’re expecting it.
Though there’s limited public beach access on the island, the town beach was never crowded (in late August!), and the cove next to this home is owned by the home owners so you can use it. Maine in general is rocky, so water shoes are helpful. If you’re looking for this type of vacation for a small family or a couple of *very* close friends- you will be completely happy and will leave refreshed!
