We love pets but allergies and previous bad experiences prevent us from allowing pets. Pet penalty is $25 per night plus pet cleaning fee of $75.
Sounds carry very well through the mountains. Please be respectful of the peace & quiet of the mountain. (One of our neighbors is a deputy sheriff).
As Smokey says, "Only you can prevent forest fires." No charcoal grills, no outside fires. If smoking, do so outside only and police your butts please

A great location in the black hills with so much to see in the area
Beautiful house, loved the location. Very well stocked, we hardly needed to bring anything with us. We enjoyed seeing the wildlife on the mountain, we saw deer, wild turkey and so much cattle, #109 was our favorite. After long days driving, this was such a peaceful, comfortable place to call home for the week. Loved the decor of the house. Very large, spacious, comfortable home. It was exactly what we were looking for.
Bucket List: Sturgis Bike Rally
The location of this home was PERFECT for our plans to check off The Sturgis Bike Rally. Its location made multiple day rides in several directions very convenient. The Badlands, Wall, Sturgis, Deadwood, Spearfish Canyon, Custer State Park, Iron Mountain Road, Needles Highway, Mt. Rushmore, and Crazy Horse were all within a good day's ride. The home was well stocked and the furnishings were very comfortable. Relaxing on the porch after a day of riding was something we looked forward to each day..
The temperature difference between the first and second floors was an issue with one of our guests but since we were out of the home most of the day, we were able to work around it for the most part.
The owner was very responsive and helpful in resolving the issue we had with the very steep driveway with multiple gullies (heavy rain in area?) and ruts (previous renters?) which made it difficult to put our motorcycles in the garage as planned. The owner took care of the inconvenience.
This home is a great location if exploring the area is on your agenda.
July 21 to 28, 2019 vacation
Fine overall. Miscommunication with obtaining key was a little snafu but we recovered. Lots of comforts included. A bit too much of a drive off the mountain to repeat. We made the best of all of it and had a great time.
We are happy another guest had a great time.
Just some clarification on this review and a couple of reviews prior to this:
The drive to the cabin takes no more than 8-10 minutes (only 3 miles). It is a gravel road with curves and mostly gaining in altitude from that of the highway. The plus side is that reaching the cabin becomes a retreat. It is quiet, peaceful, beautiful and usually 10 degrees cooler than the lower elevations. Remember the cabin's elevation is about 1 mile above sea level. It is what many of our guests like best - getting away from the crowds/tourists that inhabit the Hills during the summer.
A couple of our reviews have mentioned that it is a dirt road. This is not the case. The road is gravel that is maintained by the county. Within the vicinity of the cabin, the streets are blacktopped. The road when wet is not muddy. But whether dry or wet the road is not conducive to keeping your car clean. After all, that's why God made carwashes.
Get away to nature
Spacious, house with plenty of character was well stocked with everything, from kitchen needs to books and games, providing more than enough room for our family of 6. Fine retreat for our many adventures to Custer State Park, Mt. Rushmore, the Badlands and even additional natural parks, caves, and other lovely areas which required some driving to see, but the effort was well worth it. Landlords provided lots of information about attractions and trails. Internet and cell phone can be rather spotty in the beautiful mountains.
Found our South Dakota happy place
We just spent a week here and it was great. The owners are great to deal with. They have all kinds of helpful information that they passed onto to us. The information had tips for places to see and things to do, both in the greater Black Hills and right around the cabin. They also had good tips for arrival.
In some reviews you will read about the driveway. It is really no big deal. We are from MN bluff country and this little hill was no big deal. Only tip I have is if you have a full size pick up like me and are good at backing up. You may find it easier to back up the driveway rather than try to turn around once at the top. Unless you are good at backing up just drive up.
We loved the deck and listening to the creek running down the mountain (might be running more due to a rainy summer there). Listened to the turkeys calling for 2 mornings while sitting out having coffee in 62 degree temps in July. That is my happy place.
After the hustle and bustle of seeing the sites each day with the family. It was nice to head back to this quiet mountain retreat for a peaceful grilled supper. I will would definitely recommend this place for families. Ours kids are 8 & 10 and just loved it. Thank you for a great time.
