Hidden gem in magnificent countryside!

We stayed at Markwell Farm for a week over the Easter break 2017. We being 2 40 something adults with 4 kids ranging in age from 11 to 21. We stayed in "The Dairy". The pictures on the website do not do Markwell Farm much justice. As you reach the end of the lane the farm is situated on, you breath is taken away by what must be one of the best views in Cornwall. The accommodation is full of rustic charm and is warm and welcoming, as is Alison the owner! The Dairy had ample room for our party of 6 and was the perfect retreat after a busy day's holiday making. Alison could not do enough to make our stay fantastic and relaxed. The homemade cream tea on arrival was a particularly lovely touch. Alison took so much time out to engaged with all our party and share her enthusiasm for the countryside and the animals she keeps in a fantastically varied managary which includes 2 llamas and 2 very friendly goats.

Situated at the end of a 1.5 mile twisty country lane, just off the A38, you feel that you are in the remotest part of Cornwall, which is beautiful and relaxed but with Plymouth being only a 20 minute drive away you have all the amenities of a major city just down the road. We were very sad to leave after our stay and will definitely be back.

Charming cottage in a lovely location

A good conversion of farm building into holiday home. Plenty of space for four of us (three generations). Well equipped kitchen (good range of utensils etc), comfortable sitting area, good sized rooms. Cream tea on arrival was very welcome, as was helpful guidance on local shops, pubs, restaurants. Great terrace for sitting out in the sun.

The view out from the cottage is spectacular and full of interest in all weathers.

The cottage is only a few minutes from the busy A38, giving easy access to many interesting places to visit, but offers a deeply rural tranquillity. On clear nights the stars are stunning.

This was an excellent holiday base. Plenty of National Trust places to visit. Lovely and accessible beach at Seaton. Far more to do and see than we managed in two weeks. We had really excellent fish and chips at the Bullers Arms in Landrake on a Friday evening.

Great base for exploring the area

We (2 adults, plus children aged 11, 14 and 16) spent a lovely, relaxing week here. The property was roomy and comfortable and provided a peaceful base from which to explore Cornwall. We were delighted with the home-made cream tea on arrival and the welcome from Allison. The property is definitely tucked away and a car would be essential for exploring the area. We enjoyed visits to Bodmin, Looe, Polperro and cycled the Camel Trail. A choice of supermarkets within a 15 min drive. We also enjoyed the company of the various farm cats and dogs and the opportunity to explore the farm itself. We would definitely visit again, and recommend it to others.

Amazing view, lovely cottage

10/10 for this lovely comfy cottage, big enough for my large family and with a view so wonderful dad didn't feel he needed to go anywhere else for the best part of the 2 weeks! We had lots of fun seeing the best bits of Cornwall - which is all very accessible. A few miles of ridiculously twee conutry lanes takes you straight onto the A38 - perfect!

lovely place

It was our first visit in Cornwall and Landrake and we enjoyed every day. The old farm house let us felt very welcome and home. All people of our family enjoyed the beautiful view and the silence.

There are a lots of things we could do with the children. With our car we were fast in Land's End, at the Eden Project, at the beach from St. Ives and everything around Landrake.

The Dairy, Markwell Farm

We were a party of 5, my husband, mother, daughter, 7 month-old grandson and myself, staying in The Dairy. A lovely touch was the welcoming cream tea left for us on the dining table, after Allison had greeted us on arrival. The property was clean and comfortable and well equipped. The view from the front door was stunning, looking over to the St. German's Viaduct spanning the River Tiddy. Getting anywhere involved some scary driving along a very narrow country road with the threat of oncoming cars or tractors, but we were close to Looe, Polperro and Fowey (all beautiful places) and close enough to Plymouth to spend a very wet day under cover. We found the staff at the Notter Bridge Inn very unfriendly, even rude, so wouldn't recommend it. The Saltash Tandoori was very good as was The Crooked Inn at Trematon. Being on a farm obviously contributed to the tons of flies we were bombarded with, but some fly strips and spray kept the pests manageable. We had an extremely enjoyable week at Markwell Farm in August and would definitely recommend it to our friends.
