Great Baltimore Location
Mary, thank you for opening your beautiful home to Carol, Cindy and I. Our visit to Baltimore to visit family was so relaxing to be able to come back to peace and tranquility at your beautiful and comfortable home in the beautiful park setting. Our Bichon also loved the stay and enjoyed meeting you. We will return.
Oh Jerome, what a sweet review. Thank you. I will cherish the pretty vases that were left in the bedrooms. They will always make me think of you all and little beignet. My very best, Mary, Frankie, and Goldie❣️
This was an incredible setting. A huge urban park formed a forest surrounding the old mill stream. The house sits across from the falls. And, the neighborhood is full homes from another era.
All of this fed my soul.
Mary was delightful, helpful and accommodating.
The best of the city and the restoration that nature - Wow!
Thank you Roddy. Come again--your home away from home awaits!
Charming Area for a Quaint Weekend with Some Nuisances
Three-day rental in May. Two of us were staying all 3; others were staying for 2. The house is in a very charming, historical part of Baltimore. It is an older house with some nice upgrades. Well stocked and has everything you need. Owner's first impression was not great, however. Renting the house for 4 people, my nephew (thus 5) decided to join us for the weekend. After a few pleasantries, the immediate question was how many of us and I stated "5", forgetting that the initial quote only allowed for 4 total (2+ has extra fees). Mary, the owner, stated it would be extra. Not a big deal, but she did waive the fee, eventually. She showed us the house and asked how many bedrooms we needed, which was confusing. We just needed 2 bedrooms. Details about the property are vague and misinforming and when I rent a house, I expect that I rented the whole house unless stated. There are 2 (or 3 bedrooms) in the main house. The 3rd one looked like it was still worked on including paint, drywall patching, and small projects, as did a few other parts of the house. 2 remodeled bathrooms and the kitchen were very nice. Downstairs is shared between the main house and the mentioned separate suite and is where the owner stays during the visit. “Always on premises” and sharing the downstairs are quite different when renting. Mary passed through the house several times and although very nice, it’s not what we had envisioned. It felt as if we needed to tiptoe around and careful and quiet because of the apartment's proximity to the main part of the house. I was cognizant not to make noise or leave anything out of place during our stay. My family and I clean up after ourselves but this felt uncomfortable. The first night of our stay was exceptionally warm; it had been in the 90's during the day. The house does not have central air. One BR had a useable a/c unit, while the other had one in an unusable location because lack of 3-prong outlet (older house). There was a 3-prong outlet on the other side of the room, however. Had to ask for an extension cord to cross the whole room, which is a code violation. The response I got was whether it was really that warm and we could just use the ceiling fan. Then I was asked to be ‘careful’ with the air conditioner’s usage. Guest’s comfort is first and foremost so this perturbed me a little, but we turned it off when we left and back on when we were home. Not for those that have pet allergies; cat is free roaming.
Several specific details from this review are incorrect:
1. I DO NOT share the main part of the house. "Downstairs" is NOT shared with anyone except the guest members. I live in a distinctly separate apartment, and do not occupy any part of the house that I rent to guests.
2. I never state, anywhere, that I have "central air". I do have air conditioners is each bedroom. Any extra cord is needed for one of them, and I provided it to these guests.
3. I can't help that this guest felt the need to "tiptoe" around. This is completely unnecessary as my home is soundproof and I cannot hear and they cannot hear between the apartment and the main house.
4. As I wasn't prepared for an additional guest, this 3rd bedroom was not in perfect form, (sheets weren't changed, and there was a ladder stored there) but it was not "being worked on". This is a separate bedroom with a door that is closed and not in use for their stay. I'm confused what their concern is here.
Finally, this guest had several different people coming and going from the home during the stay. I wanted to see who was there and thus I walked through the home, once, to see what was going on, especially as they did not report a 5th person that would be staying at the home. The air conditioners were new and just installed. I forget my exact words, but I may have stated this and asked them to "be careful".
I provide breakfast and other amenities that aren't stated on my website. My guests comfort is my utmost concern and I am deeply disturbed when any guests are not 100% happy. I will take great pains to do what I can to address any real problem, but I'm afraid the above review doesn't allow me to change any behavior on my part, as everything is stated clearly in my website and I assume guests will read all the text carefully to make their decision to stay, or not.
Felt like we stepped back in history.
We really enjoyed the scenic, historic surroundings inside and outside the house. We will come back, and would recommend this charming house to friends. The owner was very accomodating and helpful. We only felt bad that we didn't have enough time to explore the quaint village and surroundings.
