Damp and shabby cottage
Instructions for locating the property could have been more precise. We located it eventually by matching the photograph and reading the review that described the shop opposite. We discovered a car park a few minutes from the house and it would have been easy and helpful if this had been mentioned in the instructions as buses and farm vehicles come past the house and I was reluctant to leave our rental car in the spaces available opposite the house. Immediately on opening the front door the smell of musty damp was very strong. The house is shabby and some things are broken or not functioning well (eg one of the rings on the cooker, the kitchen sink drains very slowly, has clearly at some point leaked as there’s a pot placed under the u bend to catch drips, and when we tried to unblock it an unpleasant smell arose from the sink). Some of the facings from the drawers and cupboards in the kitchen are coming away. There is nothing to make coffee in, and the only vegetable knives are the size of bread knives and rather blunt. The garden furniture (ie two chairs) is shabby and definitely needs replacing - I had to clean green algae off both chairs, but as there is no table we sat on our own picnic rug to eat meals in the garden. Luckily the weather allowed us to eat all meals outside as I personally would not have been able to sit inside in either of the two downstairs rooms as they were unpleasantly damp and chill and smelled so strongly of musty mould. One morning when we were sitting in the garden a friendly man arrived to cut the grass and told us that he and his wife -who normally cleans the house - had not been told of our booking so they were unaware that we were there. When I read some of the reviews I wonder if I stayed at the same cottage... there is definitely no decking in the garden to sit and watch the sunset! The shop opposite was one of the most miserable and poorly stocked shops I have encountered, we were lucky they had a couple of bars of soap in stock so we were able to buy one when we arrived. This house clearly needs money spent on it and unless you can guarantee fine weather so as to be able to escape the damp I would not recommend it. The area was fascinating and because we were able to be out and about all day we had a great holiday in spite of a very sub standard cottage.
A lovely little cottage
A lovely cottage in a quaint village handy for the beaches and attractions on the east coast of the beautiful island of Anglesey. We only stayed 2 nights but really enjoyed our stay in the cosy cottage. Very clean, lots of original features. Very easy book and deal with the owner. Thank you
We had a great stay, nice comfortable cottage, in a good location. Has everything we needed, however upstairs was quite small.
