Location was beautiful, but the house could use some better cleaning.
My family and I enjoyed the outdoor space very much. The fire pit, lake views and kayaks were a hit. As for the interior of the house, it could use some better cleaning. The kitchen counters, floor and refrigerator were not cleaned. There was food residue and crumbs that we had to clean ourselves. The downstairs bathroom toilet had hair on it and the shower had someone's used bar of soap left behind. The area rugs in the kitchen and bathrooms looked used and had debris on them. Some of the bath towels were tattered rags. They were frayed and stained. As for the beds. We loved the fact that there were no bunk beds. But some of the mattresses were very old. One of the twin beds was so sunk in that it was like sleeping on a deflated air mattress. Lastly, a few days prior to our arrival we were notified about a problem with mice. We were asked to check the traps INSIDE the house. Make sure they had peanut butter on them and clean them if anything is caught. We caught two mice during the week stay.
I am sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your Lake house experience more. We really try our best to make it an excellent place to stay.
Thank you for calling attention to some important issues. I have already made the upgrades like new twin beds and new towels. Apparently, the older towels somehow got mixed with the newer towels, which are not rags. I also talked with my cleaner about ensuring consistent quality.
Regarding the mice issue, my cleaner told me that her clients around the lake are having similar problems this year. I’ve never seen such a bad mice problem, and I’ve been coming up here for 50 years. Ironically, I’ve been staying at the cabin for the last two weeks and I have not seen a single mouse. Perhaps the efforts are finally paying off. Of course I will do everything I can to ensure it does not happen again!
Wonderful Week on Priest Lake
We have been coming to Priest Lake for years. We've camped at various spots, rented a few houses and stayed with friends in their cabins so we're pretty familiar with the area. The location of Bryan's cabin is perfect, sun all day plus sunsets. We had a group of 8 with 2 power boats and our own kayaks.
We did 2 hikes, Wigwams and Chimney Rock/Roothan. If you're unfamiliar with access Indian Creek does have good maps and info just 10 mins south. 4x4 with higher clearance advised :)
The house was plenty big for all of us, the kitchen is well stocked with everything you would need from baking to BBQ-ing.
We did all miss our own king sized beds at home, but hey, it's a lake cabin so we weren't complaining too much :)
The previous renters this year, starting a couple weeks ago, reported a mice issue, Bryan made me aware of the situation and had ordered some extra traps and an ultrasonic deterrent that was delivered Monday...it was not a problem for us and we caught a few the first day then after that about 1 a day.
Checking out of the cabin took a bit more time, we didn't know the washing machine was going to be that slow so even quick loads took up to an hour to complete- i don't think it helped that some people took showers while we were doing laundry and the water pressure can be slow/low. Because of that we had to leave some sheets going in the dryer and a load still running in the washing machine which i felt bad about for the cleaners but I made Bryan aware and I think it was fine in the end.
Priest Lake is so beautiful and we can't wait to come back!
Perfect for us
We have been coming to Priest Lake for 20 plus years, but the family has grown and continues to grow. This place fit our needs perfectly, with room to grow! Bryan has just about everything you will need for your stay, including a couple sweatshirts if you happen to forget them. Great stay, beautiful lake, perfect vacation!
A charming home in a can’t be beat location. Bryan was very easy to work with and communicate with. The kayaks were especially fun for our kids (age 10-19). The upstairs had enough room for all the kids to spread out and the downstairs bedroom allowed for privacy for the parents. Priest Lake is our family’s favorite vacation spot. The location of this house is great because it’s close (by boat) to Elkins and pretty close to being in the middle of the lake. We were able to do things on both the south end where there’s a few restaurants and the more rustic north end where you can really get away from it all. I would give a five star review except for the fact that this house had a significant mouse problem while we were there. I grew up in the area so I’m familiar with mice being a problem. Bryan also said it’s been a particularly bad year for them, which I get. However it was a very serious problem, the worst I’ve ever seen. I’m sure the owners will be addressing the problem and then it would be an excellent place to stay!
Thank you for your review. I apologize for the problem with the mice. This phenomenon was the first of its kind in my many years here. I was unaware of the issue until you reported it to me, and I responded by immediately ordering more traps and sonic devices.
Because of the remote location, I have to rely on my guests to call my attention to problems like this as they arise. It is the only way I can be effective. I only wish you would have notified me earlier, when you encountered the problem, instead of waiting until mid-week.
To note: The problem has been resolved, and we have taken measures to ensure it will not happen again.
My cleaner reports that some of the other lake homes had similar issues this summer.
Don't want to say how great this is....
If I tell you how perfect this property is, everyone will want it! The "cabin" (really a house) is very well maintained, very clean and roomy. Our favorite spot was sitting, eating, and enjoying the view from the wonderful deck. The west facing portion is shady most of the day and has a gorgeous view of the water. The north portion of the deck is shady, catches the evening breeze and has a conveniently located picnic table. The kitchen is big enough for a group cooking session and has all the equipment needed. Though the dishwasher is a smaller size, it is well designed to fit a meal's worth of dishes. We enjoyed using the convenience.
We also, of course, had fun exploring the lake with the kayaks and playing in the water.
The owner Bryan is easy to work with and VERY responsive to communications.
All in all a fantastic Priest Lake experience.
Thank you Jane, The neighbors gave your group high marks. Thank you for the excellent review and being a great communicator.
It was a pleasure having you and hope that you will return!
Funny you should use the word “perfect”, because I have Priestlakeperfect.com and will be designing some T-shirts soon. I will send you a couple when they are done.
