Great location but unit was uncomfortably warm during our stay.

We loved how close this unit was to the beach, San Diego Zoo and Sea World. The unit was true to its pictures as well. However, there were several things have could have improved our stay there.

Upon arriving the unit was very hot. We tried to turn on the AC and when it did not work we called the owner Max. He answered our call and told us the main unit did not work, only the window unit in the bedroom. He said upon arriving the unit can be hot sometimes so he recommended we open the windows to air it out. We went to the beach for a few hours and opened all windows before we left. When we came back the unit was just as hot as it had been before. We called Max back and he said he had received similar complaints that it had been hot and he was going to contact some people and see if we they could bring and AC unit out to us. We never heard back. I missed a call from him the following day, returned his call and never heard back. It was so hot my two children (4 & 2) and myself all shared the bedroom since the window AC was in that room. My husband slept on the couch and said it was so hot at night, despite having all the windows open, that he was sweating all night for all of our three nights that we stayed.

Also upon arriving the wifi did not work (which was solved later that evening) and the fan in the bedroom did not work. The battery was dead and it could only be operated by remote so we could not turn the fan on to cool the hot unit. There was a standing fan in the living room but it did little to nothing to cool the unit. The BBQ on our patio also did not work so we used the one on the unit next to ours which was vacant. Additionally, the sliding glass doors on the bathroom shower were not secured at the bottom (only at the top) which made me nervous with two small children. The doors were held in place when fully closed but if open they seemed un-secured.

Again this was a great unit for the proximity it was to our activities but I would not return. It was uncomfortably hot and never received any solution to the heat. Plus I feel this issue should have already been addressed prior to our stay as others had already mentioned it before.

I do think a stay here during cooler months would have been much more pleasant. I hope these issues get fixed promptly so others can enjoy more comfortably.

Réponse du propriétaire: We are truly sorry that you did not enjoy your experience. We do out best to perform routine maintenance on our place but certain things are hard to catch such as batteries for the fan remote. Just to clarify a couple of things for potential renters, the air unit was working properly. The unit that was referred to as "not working" is a heater, not an A/C. Upon inspecting the a/c unit after this grievance I discovered that it was set to energy saving mode which makes the a/c run intermittently, and as a result does not do as well of a job cooling down the whole house. It does get hit in the summer so we advise renters to open the windows upon arrival, to let out the hot air, and crank the a/c before closing them again. That tends to work great but I do understand that it is asking a lot to ask renters to do that so we are going to implement a routine with the cleaners to start the a/c for renters before they arrive. The internet works very well, but you need to refer to the hospitality information for the codes. They are on the side of the router as well. We do have extra propane for the BBQ in the laundry room downstairs in case our renters run out. I hope this response sheds some light on some of the quirks of our little place and we will do our best to update our hospitality information to help renters get the best out of the treetop flat!

This was a very clean, charming and comfortable place, located conveniently in Talmage. The hosts were very gracious and helpful. Street parking however, can be an issue after dark.

Good bargain! But some issues .....

This "treetop" unit was faithful to the pictures and information on the web site. It was clean, and well-maintained. It isn't close to downtown San Diego, but it wasn't too hard to get there by car. It was close, though, to many of the charming outlying neighborhoods of San Diego, such as Normal Heights, Mission Valley, Del Mar, and Hillcrest. These neighborhoods have their own shops and restaurants, and invite a leisurely stroll. Max was responsive, by texting, to our questions, and came over to start the heater pilot for us. The unit was quiet, as it is away from the street.

There were some things wrong, however, some of which the owners should work on. First, is adequate instructions. The instructions on the web site for parking are not clear. Yes, the parking on the street (to be close to your unit) is not adequate, but how to get to the one place on property where you can park off-street is not clear (it's BEHIND the unit, off an alley). There are no instructions for how to use the three remote controls (TV, Cable box, Blue-ray player) for those unfamiliar with the system. We fumbled with the keys to the door(s) for about 10 minutes, because there are no instructions as to which key operates which lock (there are FOUR locks and three keys.) Other problems: the bathroom and kitchen are VERY small - so small that it is difficult for two people to be in them at the same time without constantly bumping into each other or the furniture. The living room and bedroom are more spacious. There are no electrical outlets in the bathroom. There were no wash cloths in the bathroom - just towels. There is a nice deck and table outside the unit, but despite the height of the unit, there is no view at all. "Treetop" unit just means you see the tops of trees. Thanks to Max and Marie for a nice stay, despite the problems.

Réponse du propriétaire: Thanks for your feedback. We are always hoping to improve and create an easier environment for our renters. We will certainly try and think of ways to make the info on the rental easier to find. We do have instructions listed in the hospitality info for entry to the property as seen here: "Address: 4449 Dawson Ave. San Diego, CA 92115 (Behind 4451 Dawson Ave) Codes and entry Enter the perimeter gate, and head up the stairs. At the top of the stairs there is a lockbox attached to the white handrail where you can access the keys to your unit. Gate and lockbox code:xxxx" TV Remotes: : Turn all three remotes on, and press “input” on the TV remote. Toggle through input options to switch between cable and Blu Ray. The Blu Ray is a smart device and will allow you access to apps such as Netflix. This doesn't change the fact that some people have a hard time navigating the hospitality info on the homeaway app. We do offer to email the instructions in a pdf form upon request. There is an outlet on the light inside the bathroom, but perhaps we should add that to the house info as it can be easily missed. We do have washcloths available, and if they aren't there we would like to know that immediately so we can address it with the cleaning crew. The bathroom is small as this is a small apartment(550 square feet). We really try to advertise it, as well as price it according to the value of the space. This is a little secret that I don't advertise because I can't always be there, but I do park one of our cars on the street to hold spots for our renters as it does tend to fill up after work hours. It's worth reaching out to us and asking if we're holding a spot for you. Anyway, I appreciate the decent rating but I do feel compelled to defend our little place against little complaints because we really do feel it is a special spot that is thoroughly enjoyed by most, and we are always willing to remedy any issues in a timely manner!

Det finns allt man behöver, en skön säng, fräch toa o dusch, tvättmaskin, kök så man kan laga mat och en liten uteplats där det är sol mellan kl 9-16 ca!

En fin park på gångavstånd, och en 7eleven annars är det bil som gäller!

San Diego, Talmadge Neighborhood Rental

We found this small, one-bedroom apartment to be perfect as a base for helping with our newborn granddaughter living 1 block away. The apartment was well-appointed. A glitch in the WiFi system was fixed promptly with the creation of a new network by the owners of the property. The owners were also flexible in allowing an early arrival to coincide with the arrival of our flight from Seattle. Street parking in this area can be tight leading the owners to make arrangements for parking on the property. The rental price also seemed very reasonable. The neighborhood is good for jogging and it is a short drive (15-20 minutes) to all the downtown San Diego attractions such as Balboa Park and the convention area. I would definitely recommend this site for a stay in San Diego.

Cute Cute Place

The pictures of the Treetop Flat are SPOT on. This is an ADORABLE place. As everyone said, parking is kind of a pain the few times we came and went someone was always waiting for the spot we were coming out of. A they have mentioned in previous reviews, you can park behind the flat. If you have a larger car like us, it may be a tight squeeze. We had an issue that was rectified quickly and graciously making it so I would definitely recommend working with Max and Marie again.
