Richard's place is a gem! Great communication and quick response from him and close in proximity to Torch Lake! Highly recommend!
Nice quiet location...very clean!....Kitchen was very well equipped with everything you need...Could get in contact with the owners or property managers at any time!...Highly recommended!
Fully Stocked Kitchen!
Our family of 5 really enjoyed the location of this Alden property. You can see Torch Lake from the front porch! My husband and I walked down to watch the sunset one night. My older kids were able to ride their bikes into town to get ice cream and check out all of the neat shops in town. I highly recommend the Alden spice shop! Yum! We had dinner at the Torch Lake Brewery (Previously Alden Bar) which was right around the corner from the home. We had a pontoon boat with us and their was plenty of space to park near the home and lots of launch options. The homes kitchen was FULLY stocked! They had spices, cooking oil, olive oil, salt/pepper and anything you might need. Normally at VRBO, we have to bring these items with us. If I could change anything, it would be for the owners to provide and have the linens on the bed already. We ended up renting the linens and had to put them on when we arrived and remove them after our stay. We were not pleased with the wash quality of the sheets, but this was not managed by the homeowners. We were the first renters of the season, so spring cleaning of the floors needed a second look, and the management company was quick to get the cleaners out to give it another scrub. Rich was very communicative both before and during our stay. Highly recommend this property. Thanks for the stay!
Tera and your family,
Thank you for YOUR quick communications as to the problems with the rented linens. For a 3-night stay, we can understand you not wanting to bring your own from home. The woman who provided them attributed the "smokiness" to the laundromat she used, but we'll check further into that cause. We're pleased that the floors (kitchen especially) were cleaned (again) the next day and have talked again to the person who does the deep spring-cleaning. That has not happened with prior first renters in the several rental years past, so something went awry with her crew this time. Your speed and directness in telling us of the need for a better cleaning allowed it to be gotten to the next day. Thank you. Separately, we have given you and your family the highest review and we recommend other properties to welcome you with open doors!
Charming home in a convenient location
We really enjoyed our time in Alden. It's a quaint little town on gorgeous Torch Lake. The property is spacious & very well kept. Our hosts were very pleasant and accommodating.
Looking forward to a return visit!
As always, a great week of relaxing fun!
We all had a great time Up North, and the cabin provided the perfect place for us. With Alden centrally located for canoeing in Grayling, Sleeping Bear Dunes, Traverse City and Elk Rapids, we had an active week, and it was great to get back to the cabin each afternoon/evening and let everyone relax however they wanted. Naps here and there, walks downtown, and Higgin's ice cream. Access to the Muffin Tin is like icing on the cake! The kitchen is well-outfitted, and the front porch is the perfect place for morning coffee. We're all looking forward to staying there again next year.
Hello Carl and Family and thank you for the review. Looks like you certainly had an active week! And a relaxing on at other times, too. You all are certainly welcomed back next year -- and any time. Karen and Richard
The property is in a great location in Alden, MI
Rich and Karen Brown are absolutely amazing to work with; they are such kind people and are extremely responsive, and answered all questions quickly!!!
The home is close (across the street) to Torch Lake and close to the Alden marina. Torch River is absolutely amazing and beautiful. The sunsets are nothing short of stunning from Alden. Also, "Downtown Alden" - few shops and restaurants are very close within walking distance. The main restaurant in Alden was very good.
Within a 10 min drive, you can get to the "Sandbar" where you can get into the lake through public access...such a great experience. We also rented a ski boat and went boating and tubing for a day. Also, enjoyed Traverse City within a 45 min drive.
The property is an older victorian style house with good history...
Please note that the house does not have central air conditioning, washer/dryer, or a dishwasher. Knew about the first 2 items, but didnt know about not having a dishwasher. I must have overlooked this in the listing description. This was an inconvenience, as we had to handwash dishes, and who wants to do that on vacation....We only ate breakfast in, as we were out all day. Please note that is the only reason i gave this home review 4 stars....
Again, would like to let everyone know that Rich and Karen were AMAZING to work with!
Thank you very much for allowing us to experience Torch Lake from your Alden home.
Aarthi, we're sorry that the absence of a dishwasher was not noted ahead. The listing site lists what is provided, but does not allow listing of what is not. We had tried a few years ago to check "dishwasher" and "washer/dryer" and then say "None", but that proved quickly to be even more confusing. What we are very pleased with (and it appears you are, too) is how much your feedback and review tell us that your family enjoyed themselves for their vacation week. If you are looking for a nice family vacation some other year, and go into it accepting that you will have to wash the breakfast and snack dishes (or have one of your children or husband do that), we'd love to welcome you back -- you were great guests to have there. :>)
