Great House and Excellent Communication from Hosts
Our entire family enjoyed staying at the house. Lots of room and everything we needed.
Our Stay In Otis
Our stay was perfect except for the hot weather .Due to probably climate change the last week of the summer in the Berkshires needed air conditioning. This was not normal for the time of the year. We are usually wearing ski jackets. Since heat rises it was difficult to sleep in the upper rooms even though there were fans and the windows were open. We managed with two bathrooms for twelve adults. We had internet connection but no cell phone service. When a mechanical problem arose the owners were present immediately to make the necessary repair. We had a great week!
Wonderful home in beautiful area
We stayed with our parents and our children, ages 2 - 80, and everyone had a great time coking, swimming, canoeing, and playing bocce. Also bonfires and s’mores. From the house we drove to Tanglewood, Jacobs Pillow, and 2 spots for hiking. Terrific vacation, thank you and hope to return next year!
Perfect vacation for a giant family
The house was lovely with many conveniences for playing games, canoeing, BBQing, cooking, etc... Much enjoyed by parents and children. Beautiful area. We would definitely come again.
Terrific for our group's reunion weekend
In early June, a group of high school girlfriends enjoyed our stay in this spacious home for a Berkshires weekend celebration of us all turning 60 this year. We were familiar with the area, and knew the location was a secluded, woodsy spot near a beautiful swimming pond, a mile plus up a dirt road from the paved roads of the town.
The house has lots of separate areas inside and outside to accommodate pretty much whatever you might want to do, just as described. The kitchen is large, with two sinks and plenty of storage space, and it is well-equipped for cooking if you want to do that. There is a banquet-sized full dining table.
The furnishings are sturdy and well-used. A big family group, even including young children and athletic, high-energy teens, would feel comfortable relaxing here and not have to worry overly about breaking delicate things.
We did not hang out outside much, though, as it was a buggy weekend. People did take walks on the dirt road, went to and from the pond, and shopping in Great Barrington. Some of us also hiked "the Cobble," a small mountain in the next town, Tyringham, which has trails intersecting the Appalachian trail for a spell.
There are wonderful cultural activities in the area that start up for the season in mid-June: Shakespeare & Company with NY summer stock theater in Lenox, Tanglewood with symphony and some pop music, and Jacob's Pillow for dance, and free "Inside Out" free performances where you can picnic on their garden grounds. Lenox and Great Barrington have art galleries, restaurants and shops to browse.
"The Pillow" is about 15 minutes from the VRBO by the back country roads in the town of Becket, where Joe Pilates invented his namesake exercise program). The BIFF Berkshire International Film Festival) was held the first weekend in June this year, in Great Barrington.
The VRBO house sleeping spaces are flexible to accommodate everyone's various needs in a large party. Our party had one person of the 12 of us with a pet allergy so she could not stay in a pet-friendly house, so two of us stayed elsewhere. If that were not the case, one or two guests might've brought up our dogs, which the owners allow.
The owners were very helpful, providing clear information and instructions for before, during and after our stay. Overall it was great for a large group of people wanting an outdoorsy weekend stay in the Berkshires.
Perfect for extended families!
We spent an absolutely lovely snowy three days here over the holidays. This home is both beautiful and spacious, with plenty of little nooks to curl up with a book if you want a little privacy. If you plan to cook at home, you can't ask for a better kitchen. We were three families totally twelve people and this house never felt crowded. The bedrooms are spacious and comfy and our 5 teenagers all enjoyed the futons (with memory foam) in the loft. A closet filled with games and puzzles, multitudes of dvds and books kept us entertained despite the sub-zero temperatures outside! We would return here again in a heartbeat! Thank you to the DeTone Family for sharing your lovely home!
Glad you and your family had a wonderful stay!
