Very nice view and beach.
We enjoyed a nice family holiday in the cottage. The beach was lovely for the kids to play. It was too bad there was a fire ban while we were there. There’s a great fire pit. The owners were quick to respond to requests.
The cabin was just perfect for our family, very spacious! The beach out front was perfect for the kids to play but unfortunately there was no swimming as it was not suitable. The kids did not seem to mind tho as they played for hours in the sand. Karen and Kevin were great! Thanks for your part of a great vacation😀
Awesome family getaway
Our adult family's along with three toddlers and one child had a great time during our week stay. Owners Karen and Kevin were very friendly as well Kevin went the extra mile for us. We rented a pontoon boat and Kevin went to town with guys and guided them back to the house via the lake. Was very much appreciated. The kitchen was equipped very well for all our needs and more.A wonderful dock on site to tie the boats,We took kayaks along and were used daily . Even got a family picture on the new party deck!! Warm fire pit area with well stocked supply of wood. Beach was great for the kids, although disappointed we were unable to swim on site. Again Kevin directed us to location on lake which we used a few times to swim and hang out. Missed the availability of AC on a few days and nights. Wonderful area to explore both on land and water.
The cottage was very spacious and comfortable. The kitchen had everything you would need. Boat launch was only a 5 minute ride by water, and Kevin's docking area was well laid out and very clean. The views off the upper deck were beautiful, and relaxing. There were always very entertaining wildlife visitors. The sand beach was enjoyed with games of horseshoes, badminton and volleyball. The fire pit area was very cozy and we burned a pile of wood which was dry piled for our use. We enjoyed our time there and taking in the sights of Kenora and area.
Fantastic Lake Cottage
We brought our kids and grandkids (infant to 4 years old) to this cottage in July 2015. The cottage is well appointed with everything you will need. Great deck overlooking the beach, dock, and water. The grandkids played in the sand and water for hours everyday. The adults enjoyed the tiki bar and firepit. We all got a kick out of flocks of baby ducks invading the beach every day looking for handouts.
We brought 2 boats up with us and Kevin was very kind to pull one of his boats out of the water to make plenty of room for us. We have been to LOTW many times but had never spent much time on this part of the lake. Despite this, we found the walleye fishing to be excellent. It was common for us to catch 20-30 walleyes apiece in 2-3 hours fishing in a given morning. Most of the walleyes were in the 14" range but we did catch 4 fish over 25". Big Stone bay is also great for boating and tubing. We spent hours every day just cruising around, enjoying the scenery.
Kenora is 20 minutes away by either car or boat. Closest groceries, gas, and bait are about 10 minutes away by car. Bait and boat gas are about a 5 minute boat ride out to Smith Camps. That is where we put in and took out our boats as well. If you are planning to bring boats, there is plenty of room on the property for your trailer(s) with enough room to pull in and turn around.
The week we were up there was very warm and the cottage does not have AC. We brought box fans for every bed room with us and we were comfortable. There were a couple of tower type fans in the house already but I recommend bringing box fans with you if the weather guessers guess warm.
The owners Kevin and Karen are great folks that we really enjoyed meeting.
Our rather large family group had a truly enjoyable week at the cottage. It was very comfortable, spacious and totally equipped for cooking and entertaining. Kevin was very easy going and helpful. We really enjoyed the Tiki Hut and the generous availability of firewood. We would recommend this spot to anyone who is looking for a great summer vacation.
