Wonderful retreat property!
We really enjoyed the property walking the private road along the woods. Kayaking in the Ware River off the dock. Kitchen supplies well stocked and we easily cooked every meal in the house. House is exceptionally clean! The large fireplace is fantastic. Lovely porch. The tiny town of Gloucester has a specialty food store on Main Street and there is a Food Lion grocery. Great bookstore called Oasis Books also on Main Street.
We were so happy to have a warm and sunny day at the end of December so that you could make use of the kayaks. If you visit again, you should check out Nuttalls which is located nearby, is on the historic registry and has a selection of delicious homemade prepared foods.
A perfect Christmas break!
My husband and I spent Christmas in this peaceful comfortable cottage and cannot think of anything that might have improved our stay. We especially enjoyed having the working fireplace and the ready availability of firewood, as well as CD's that provided background music to complement the atmosphere. We hope to return at another time of year to try out the kayaks and explore the grounds. A sincere thank you for sharing this wonderful cottage.
We loved our stay, the cottage was very comfortable and welcoming.
Peg and John were great! Look forward to a return visit.
Exactly as the description and photo project! Although we were in and out and did not stay around during the day we absolutely loved this place. Very easy to find and very well maintained. We will be back to relax around the property!!!
We are glad you enjoyed your stay and hope to host you again.
The cottage is charming and very peaceful!
My husband and I celebrated our 9th anniversary at the cottage and we LOVED it! It was our first trip to this part of Virginia but we will be back. Peg and John are wonderful, gracious people who made us feel welcome and right at home. We enjoyed the property with morning walks and evenings on the peer. The cottage is beautifully restored the only problem is the porch swing . . . DON'T sit in it because you will never want to get up :) If you book this cottage you will not be disappointed. Thank you Peg and John for a wonderful stay!
We were so honored that you chose us for such a special occasion. I have had the same feeling about that porch swing!
Nice, quiet atmosphere. You can truly sit back and enjoy the natural surroundings.
We celebrated our 2nd anniversary here. The property grounds were well kept. The cottage was beautifully decorated and very clean. We were impressed with the old character and architecture mixed with modern amenities. We were able to do some fishing, crabbing, and kayaking right from the properties pier. It’s great that everything you need is provided for those activities. The nearby Nutall’s General Store has some of the best BBQ my husband has ever had. John & Peg are a wonderful couple. They were hospitable and respectful of our privacy. They made sure that we were taken care of after the remnants of hurricane Michael on our last night. By the way not a beam in that sturdy cottage shook during those high winds. We were impressed! Will definitely come back!
We felt lucky to have guests who had a sense of adventure when the remnants of Hurricane Michael came through with much more ferocity than was anticipated. Luckily we came through with no damage to any people or buildings on the property.
