Relaxing getaway at the tip of the North Fork
We had a fantastic stay at this quaint house sitting on huge property with access to the water. Gretchen was extremely communicative and helpful from start to finish, always making herself available, if needed (which she wasn’t because everything went great). The house was clean, light filled and comfortable. If you want to jump in the water, don’t hesitate to enjoy the beach! We made multiple trips to the Long Island Sound side if the property to enjoy the water.
Hands down I will look to stay here again if/when I return to the North Fork.
A rustic and cozy escape in Orient Point
My mother and I enjoyed a week at this lovely property right after Labor Day when all the locals take a breath and can finally begin to get back to normal after the crazy summer season. It's our favorite time to visit the North Fork and we were not disappointed.
For directions its definitely best to find the cottage when it's light out - it sits back from the main road and is a quick exit to a closed black metal gate. The arrival communication with Gretchen was great and she also followed up with instructions about how to get to the dumpster and the beach. We only found the sound beach by driving through the main property - neither beach is walkable - we never found the other one but I didn't follow up as we didn't miss it! We did get the impression however that she likes to keep the gate closed and after several trips out, returning to find it closed we took the hint and started doing so. Adding this to the house rules would eliminate any question on this process.
Bug spray is a must - not only for mosquitos but also for flies. Day and night. Relentless.
The cottage is nicely furnished and comfortable although we would have appreciated summer weight comforters and the pillows could use replacing.
The kitchen is rustic and the supplies are jumbled - we found most of what we needed but its a bit of a disarray and a step stool in the kitchen would be a nice addition. We were also missing any extra garbage bags, bath soap and kitchen hand soap. A non-skid mat in the bath would also be a nice addition. The grill worked but it could use some shoring up as one wheel is off an it's not balanced.
Overall we found this cottage relaxing - that was the main purpose of the trip. It was a lovely quiet base from which to explore the North Fork and provided a traquil setting to retun to each evening. We enjoyed touring but we were always happy to retun back to our rustic and comfy home away from home.
Thank you , Gretchen, for sharing this little piece of heaven with us.
Mia, it was a pleasure having you and your mother stay with us on our “little piece of heaven”.
Dorian and Mother Nature were the source of the increased fly population at the time of your visit. The kitchen is stocked with everything the discerning chef would require..I will admit it can be overwhelming!
Thank you and we look forward to your next stay at Driftwood Farms.
August in Orient
Orient Point Cottage is a charming, well-cared for home located on a gorgeous property within biking distance of the Village of Orient, Orient Point and Orient State Park. A beautiful location and perfect size for our party of four (two adults, and two children). We all really enjoyed it!
My husband, one year old daughter and I had an absolutely wonderful time at this property. The house was adorable and had everything we needed. We really enjoyed the dining room with its amazing farm views and grilled outside many times! The best part is the property itself. There are two private beaches (although we didn’t make It down to the bay beach because we fell in love with the sound side beach and bluff!) and acres of gorgeous farm land to take in. Such a special, quiet and beautiful place for a much needed break from the city. We will be back!
