Beautiful home in idilic setting
A wonderful place to rest and relax away from hectic day to day life. Comfortable beds and a very well stocked kitchen. However it was the terrace surrounded by beautiful vineyards that was the highlight of this property!
A wonderful place to spend the summer.
We had a great 5 week stay over the summer at La Garde, and it really was a wonderful place to be. The house itself was very spacious and really well equipped, including a microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer and a special mention must be made to the fantastic fridge that had plenty of room to hold several bottles of wine! Downstairs is open plan which makes it feel very airy and there is the option to eat inside round the old farmhouse table or outside on the terrace overlooking the vineyards. Upstairs there are two spacious bedrooms and a good bathroom with a shower. Towels and plenty of bed linen were provided and for the really hot days there was aircon too.
We were lucky to get great weather and there is a brilliant salt water filtered pool to spend lots of time in. The pool is big and deep enough to swim properly in and our 7 year old loved playing with all the floats, lilos etc provided. Several deckchairs and sun loungers are dotted around the pool to laze around on.
There are lots of places to visit fairly near by like Cognac, Jarnac, Jonzac and Pons and if you fancy a longer drive then Bordeaux , La Rochelle and Royan are approx an hour away. There are lots of things for children to do (if you can get the out the pool) in the surrounding area like horse riding, a Pirate treasure hunt at a local Chataeu and Jonzac has a great outdoor area with a man made lake, water sports, rock climbing etc. There are lots of grown up things to do too like Cognac tasting, some great restaurants and if you have a dog like us there are some great walks along the Charente to do as well as just simply walking through the vineyards outside the house to visit the windmill at the top of the hill which is a local landmark.
Our hosts Gotz and Ellie were very welcoming and I enjoyed our chats every day. They had some good tips for restaurants to visit and sights to see.
We would really recommend a stay at La Garde and we were sorry when we had to leave at the end of the summer.
