spacious, well equipped kitchen
The location of this guest house was perfect for exploring Digby Neck, Long Island and Brier Island. The house is spacious and has an open, well equipped kitchen/dining area. The bed in the master bedroom was too soft for my husband's taste but since there were just two of us we could make use of the second bedroom.
Clean house and great location for whale watching, but missing some essential items.
The pros for this property include its great location to Brier Island and whale watching, which was why we chose it. The owners provided useful brochures, where we found some places to visit before we left the area. The house was very clean, which I appreciated. Also, my son has allergies, so I appreciated the wood and tile floors and leather couch, to minimize exposure to pet dander from previous renters. The countertops and tables were free of clutter, allowing us to keep all our personal items visible and organized. The bathroom was spacious. The owner responded to emails and seemed friendly, and his directions to the house were very detailed. The cons include a very squeaky bed frame in the master bedroom, with a very saggy mattress. We actually put the mattress on the floor our second night, which was a huge improvement, telling us it was maybe just primarily an insecure metal frame. The biggest inconvenience was there were no paper products, other than toilet paper. I searched all the cabinets and closets, but there were no paper towels, napkins or tissues. Also, there was no sponge, so we washed the dishes with a dish towel, and used some napkins and tissues we keep in the car. The property is not close to a convenient store, so these items were not easy to pick up or worth the trip, considering our short stay. Our child is older, so this wasn't a concern to us necessarily, but there were bare screws on the closet doors where knobs should have been. Although there isn't wifi in the house (which the owner fully disclaimed), we did have internet using the data on our phone. Overall, the house met our needs for a two night stay and was a good value, despite some inconveniences. It is certainly a beautiful area and we enjoyed our visit.
Thanks for taking the time to review you cottage stay.
We are sorry that we were not 'up to snuff' in that "sprinting" period of our whale-watching business. It was difficult to keep up with everything those weeks. We were not able to check it ourselves and we obviously need a 'checklist' for the staff on some of these things. (paper towel and tissue). There should have been a 'dish cloth' (versus a 'sponge') for washing dishes, again; sorry if it wasn't 'refreshed' by cleaning staff. We would have come right over with those items if you had contacted us. We live right around the corner. There IS a convenient store 3-4 minutes away in Little River, actually.
The house is in an inconvenient location for internet. The only internet available there is through the cell phone tower system and it is based on data consumed and very expensive. (similar at our own home, we don't have internet there).
The bed? ..We have not had any complaints or comments in the several years we rented this out (only sporadically, through the summers) I polled 8 of our reservations from 2018 and 5 replied. Four said fine, the 5th said: "we remember it being a little sunk it but we slept just fine and it was comfortable." We will take your 'concern' under advisement.
We are glad you enjoyed your visit to our area.
wonderful accomodating property
Great ammenities, sketchy tv service and no wifi
But we knew that and enjoyed our stay as a whale watching was on our agenda!
Local grocery stores are limited, but fun and eclectic, so if you are staying for awhile stock up in Digby.
Owners were very gracious, and accomodating.
We had a great time..thank you Tom & Penny
