Sadly, not what it used to be..
Not a great experience overall to say the least. Unfortunately things seem to have changed since the last review of some time ago. First of all we were unable to use any of the showers for more than a minute or two as the drains were blocked and the trays overflowed. Ditto the 2 downstairs loos as we found to our cost when they overflowed on flush (we had to ‘mop up’ ourselves). This was the case for the entire week, the owner was aware but took 3 days to actually call me back to discuss. There were people coming and going all week to look at the issue which was very disruptive for us – we felt we had to leave the house and let them get on with it. The issue was unresolved when we left. Despite offering a refund during our stay the owner reneged upon our return home and only sent a partial refund of what was originally offered once HomeAway got involved. The owner actually asked me to consider a thought for her as she had to cope with these issues for 2 years whereas we only had to ‘put up with them’ for a week..make of that what you will for ‘customer service’..
On our second day the gardener told us the pool was not safe (after calling the pool man) because of algae levels (very cloudy) – we got our children out and headed for the beach and in the owners defence this issue was addressed later that day. On the last day I ended up chasing the sewage flow to help the maintenance man – I’d had enough so we headed out yet again for the afternoon, unable to enjoy a relaxing time at the property on our last day.
The dated images are not indicative of the standard – for example a nicely manicured lawn actually transpired to be 1 foot high grass. Also, the bedroom carpet was matted with (what we think was) grey dog hair – we tried to vacuum it ourselves but not very successfully (the cleaner later told us the vacuum cleaner wasn’t exactly in good order). Great location, such a shame we had a bad experience which could have been avoided by basic maintenance and checks prior to our arrival.
Great house in a stunning location
All I can say is I want to live there!
Fantastic house, homely & comfortable, set in the most stunning location. Located in the hills above Ceret this house is the perfect base for those who like to visit numerous locations. From here you are surrounded on all 4 sides by The Pyrenees, The Med, France & Spain.
I would highly recommend this property to anyone who enjoys a peaceful relaxing location with amazing views and everything you require just a short trip away.
The owner is a wonderful woman who cannot do enough to help you prepare for your stay, I will miss chatting to her. We can only thank her for allowing us to stay in her lovely home which made our holiday a very memorable holiday.
Lovely house in beautiful area
We are a couple in our 60's with a dog, interested in walking and sightseeing. We stayed here for 25 days and were joined by our daughter and husband and her 2 children under 2 for 10 days.
This well maintained house was as described and any problems we had were dealt with promptly. The house was comfortable and well equipped with plenty of room for larger numbers.
The terraced garden provided shaded areas for sitting as well as table tennis, badminton and boules. Two bbq's and two outdoor tables, one at the pool and the other beside the kitchen made for variety in outdoor eating. We enjoyed enjoyed breakfast in the sunroom looking over the view of the valley below. We also had fun with the pinball machine in the evenings!
A minor disappointment was the limited seating/lounging area around the pool when our daughter etc joined us. The weather was in the mid 20's which was perfect for walking but consequently the pool was surprisingly cold.
Ceret, 15 minutes by car, is a delightful town with a most attractive medieval centre and some typical restaurants with a variety of prices and menus.
We would recommend this house but not for very small children due to unprotected drops in the garden by the swimming pool.
We are always grateful for our guests reviews & wherever possible we are keen to address any concerns for the comfort & enjoyment of future guests. We will therefore be adding to our poolside seating & where possible look at ways in which the garden landscaping can be made safer for very small children.Although the pool may occasionally be a little cooler in September, swimming through until October is usually most enjoyable & we therefore had previously not needed to consider supplementary heating. However we will be looking into ways this may be achieved before re-opening the pool in 2016
