Beautiful secluded family vacation!
The property was beautiful, just as pictured with amazing views, surrounded by nature, and with lots of privacy. It is only a 5-10 minute drive to restaurants and shops in Hilo and very close to waterfalls. He property was fully equipped and Alexandra was very flexible with our check in/out times. Thank you for an amazing stay!
Great place. Very convenient for our basketball team.
Needs a little improvement. Pool lights, Sauna, jacuzzi, gates to property, and jets in masterbath tub needs to be fixed.
Close to Hilo, nice and responsive property manager
Advantages: proximity to Hilo (10-minute drive), single level (good for elderly), pool (good for kids), big kitchen, enough bedrooms/beds for extended family of 8. The AC is actually AC units in the bedrooms which are in the back hallway (living room, kitchen, dining in the front of the house) so the front is warm; we used the ceiling fans and a table fan. The AC units going on/off overnight was loud for us so we just turned them to fan. Geckos in the house but we were used to them in Kona; they are cute, not bothersome. Would find tiny coqui frogs dead in the pool (?chlorine) but didn't bother my husband and kids who would fish them out and swim. House looks out onto the bay, could see lava fissure from the house, lots of fruit trees on property. FYI that the neighborhood itself is not very developed--few houses, the roads far in are not finished, though looks like ultimately the plan may be for it to be a development of homes (judging by the line of palm trees on the main road in).
The good, the bad and the ugly.
This well-located home is in a gated community and has a beautiful panoramic ocean view, soaring ceilings and a property manager that is very personable and extremely responsive.
This home has clearly been severely neglected. Plants were growing in the rain gutters. There were no wash cloths and very few towels in the bathrooms. Many of the linens, pillows and towels were very old and some smelled of mold. There were no mattress covers on several beds and one bed was made up without a top sheet. The window-mounted air conditioners were also very old, and some emitted a strong moldy odor. One air conditioner was very loud and was repaired with large band-aids, and another was repaired with duct tape. The kitchen cabinets badly needed cleaning, both inside and out. A moldy cutting board and few old pots needed to be thrown out. Numerous light bulbs needed replacement. The TV did not work because the owner/manager did not upgrade the cable box to digital technology on time.
The window shades were very dirty. In one case, two long-dead geckos were suck to one window shade in plain sight. Another dead gecko was squashed in a door jam. The windows were also very dirty, and the windowsills were covered with dead bugs, gecko droppings and a great deal of dirt and grit.
Thankfully, Suzy was very responsive to all our issues and questions. Once we informed her of the issues, she and her husband came in with a cleaning crew right away and spent the better part of a day cleaning and fixing things.
Although we greatly appreciated this assistance, we had to question how the condition of the place had been allowed to fall into such a sorry state.
For the money this rental cost, this is inexcusable. We would not recommend this place to anyone.
